Jon's Corner

Hello to all my Coolest Self Advocates out there.
I went to the Disability Pride Day event on July 21, 2023. It was put on buy DRM (Disability Rights Maine) and they had 300 hundred people there. We got to meet a lot of Vendors there like MDDC (Maine Developmental Disabilities Council), St. Joseph’s College & GoMaine were just a few of the many that were there.  WABI TV5 News was there, and they spoke with me, Stephanie and Kile Pelletier. We told them about what was going on & how people with Disabilities are important & brought up LD 1666. You can find the story on Augusta celebrates Disability Pride Month (wabi.tv)

I love going every year to the Disability Pride Day. I got to try out the Phone Machine for Voting. It was easy to use. I gave out my business card to the vendors so they can have our information. I also got to see Jared Escobar and meet his wife Casey and their new baby Olivia.  She is a lot of fun.

They had 2 food trucks there one Greek & one with BBQ.
Kile’s Mom was there this year helping.

This was the biggest turn out ever for Disability Pride Day.

I also loved hearing Sarah Trites Poem.  It was a very good one and she will be sharing it with us soon.

Kile's Corner

Hey to all my self-advocates out there. This is Kyle Pelletier again with another Kyles Corner for the month of July 2023. July's been a laid-back month because of a lot of vacations and time off we've been having. It was still busy, so, I just want to talk about one of the things that we did this past week. We went to Medway Recreation Park to meet face-to-face with the Northern Penobscot crew, and to have some pizza and refreshments. It was a very good turnout. We saw many familiar people from the past and some new faces.

It is important to us to do this so we can see and check up on other self-advocates in Maine to see what they have been doing. We included Self-Advocates, whom we can meet face to face who do not like the computer or don’t have an internet connection. We talked about what's going on like Disability Pride at Mill Park in Augusta, and other things that are going on and coming up in the future.

I feel that face-to-face, we can hang out with people we have not seen in a long time to talk about topics that we believe in and can speak up about in our life. The sun was in our faces, and it was a good day to have a face-to-face meeting. I hope that we have more!
