10 Day Look Ahead: Renewal Project Construction Activities

The Stanford University Medical Center Renewal Project, which will expand Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, rebuild Stanford Hospital, modernize Hoover Pavilion, and replace School of Medicine laboratories, is underway. Below is a summary of the Renewal Project's anticipated construction activities, hours of activity, and any affected lane or road closures over the next 10 days. New Stanford Hospital Facility
December 2012 - 2019

Work is under way to construct the new Stanford Hospital facility in order to accommodate advances in medical technology, increase capacity, and meet new seismic safety standards. The 824,000 square foot hospital includes 368 individual patient rooms, state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment rooms, an expanded Emergency Department, new employee parking structure, five gardens, walking trails and a meditation room. The new hospital is expected to open for patient care later in 2019.

This week's activities:

What to expect this weekend (11/17 - 11/18) 

Interior finish construction is expected to continue this Saturday,
including ceiling tile installation, painting, electrical and plumbing. 

Weekday Work (11/19 - 11/23)
Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am to 8 pm for regular construction.   

The site will be closed on Thursday, 11/22 and Friday, 11/23 in observance of Thanksgiving holiday.    

The interior of the hospital is progressing with drywall, ceiling installation, tile flooring, framing, painting and lighting fixtures.  Imaging and medical equipment installation is in progress.  Fire alarm testing continues . Air balancing continues.  The building management system migration is in progress. Patient room window shades are now functional.
 
Outside the hospital,  holiday lighting that outlines the precast podium and patient pods is being installed.  Water fountain concrete work by the Emergency Department drive is underway. Rebar installation and concrete pours will continue at the plaza. Site lights are being energized. Paver  installation continues south of the parking garage.   The construction of the bus stop shelter in front of the garage entrance on Welch Road progresses with pouring of the foundation. The pedestrian path has been diverted while this work occurs. 
 
What to expect next weekend (11/24 - 11/25) 
Hours of Construction Activity: 6 am to 3:30 pm
 
The site will be closed next weekend in observance of Thanksgiving holiday.
School of Medicine BioMedical Innovations Building
January 2017 - Late 2019

The BioMedical Innovations Building (BMI) will be a state-of-the-art facility that fully supports the talent and vision of the School of Medicine to translate medical research discoveries into treatments and cures. The new building will be approximately 215,500 square-feet with four above-grade floors of research labs and light-filled gathering places, and a lower basement level with reduced functional square footage for utility support. A connective tunnel to other nearby research facilities is part of the proposed design.

No construction impacts are expected this weekend.

Weekday Work (11/19 - 11/23)
Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am to 4 pm for regular construction

The site will be closed on Thursday, 11/22 and Friday, 11/23 in observance of Thanksgiving holiday.

Interior work progresses including electrical, shafts, ducts, plumbing, walls, frames, doors, fire sprinklers and waterproofing. Roofing work, stairs installation and glazing continues.

A crane on-site continues to lift precast panels onto the west face of the building.

What to expect next weekend (11/24 - 11/25) 
Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am to 4 pm for regular construction

The site will be closed next weekend in observance of Thanksgiving holiday.

General Reminders

Motorists: please be mindful of sharing the road with bicyclists. 

 

Consider alternatives to driving, including Stanford's free Marguerite shuttle, biking, carpooling, and transit. Try the do-it-yourself commute planning tool.

 

Cyclists: please be mindful of sharing the sidewalk with pedestrians. Those who choose not to share the road and use the sidewalks must walk their bicycles.

 

Pedestrians: must use the new designated crosswalks on Welch Road. Jaywalking is illegal and especially unsafe in active construction areas. Thank you!
