The Packard Children's Hospital expansion, which will expand Packard's ability to care for children and expectant mothers, is under way. The new 521,000 square foot facility will add 150 patient beds, more healing spaces, and the latest medical technology. The Packard expansion is scheduled to open in 2016.
This week's activities:
What to expect this weekend (11/9-11/10)
Hours of Construction Activity: 8 am to 6 pm
On Saturday, 11/9, the project contractors will perform auger cast pile installations; mechanical, engineering and plumbing layouts; and basement decking installation.
No work is scheduled to occur on Sunday, 11/10.
Weekday work (11/11-11/15)
Hours of Construction Activity: 7 am to 6 pm, Dirt off-haul as needed from 4 pm to 12 am
On Wednesday, 11/13, construction trailers will be delivered behind the K Rail on the inboard lane of Quarry Road (at Welch) to support the Packard expansion project team. The first delivery will occur at 10:30 am and will be staggered to accommodate traffic flow. Flaggers will be present on site. The trailer deliveries are estimated to continue for four days.
Shoring excavation, rebar installation, slab waterproofing, concrete formwork, auger cast pile installation and bench cutting work will continue on the Packard expansion site next week. Rebar cages for auger cast piles will be delivered during the week. All drilling work is being closely coordinated with the hospital and is not anticipated to cause noise or vibration.
The tower crane will be in use to install rebar columns and formwork.
Dirt off haul may continue during the week from 4 pm until 12 am.
Access to the rear entrance of Packard Children's will remain open throughout construction although some egress detours will be in place.
What to expect next weekend (11/16-11/17)
Hours of Construction Activity: 12:01 am to 6 pm
A concrete mat slab will be poured on Saturday morning, 11/16, at 12:01am.
Construction trailer deliveries may continue behind the K Rail at Quarry and Welch roads.
No work is currently scheduled for next Sunday, 11/17.
