August 2011-September 2013
One of the first steps in the effort to expand Packard Children's Hospital and rebuild Stanford Hospital includes utility work and surface improvements. The Welch Road Utility Project includes: replacing utility services and information technology infrastructure along Welch and Quarry Roads to serve the new hospital facilities once they are built; the widening of Welch Road; replacement of sidewalks, curbs and gutters; planting of new street trees and installation of planted medians and street lighting.
Note: Access to the Emergency Room will be maintained at all times.
This week's activities:
What to expect this weekend (6/23-6/24)
Hours of Construction Activity: 7am - 3:30 pm
Work to install a new hot water line will continue on Quarry Rd and on Welch Rd on Saturday, 6/23. Work will also occur on the emergency duct bank on Quarry; chilled water line work will continue on Quarry Extension; hot water, domestic water and gas line work will occur on Ambulance Drive. Work will continue to construct new curbs and gutters in the Blake Wilbur parking lot.
A planned regular power shutdown will occur at the AMC at Stanford Hospital & Clinics as well as Parking Structure 3 and 801 Welch Road on Sunday, 6/24 from 6 am until 5 pm. These shutdowns are being coordinated directly with each property.
Weekday work (6/25-6/29)
Hours of Construction Activity: 7am - 5:30 pm
Welch Rd is now a one-lane, one-way road going West from Quarry to Pasteur Drive. This change will be in effect for two years. We thank you for your patience regarding this significant change and ask that you please adjust your driving route accordingly. South Pasteur Drive is now a two-way two-lane road. North Pasteur Drive is closed between Blake Wilbur Drive and Sand Hill Road.
K-Rail will remain in place on the inboard side of Quarry Rd (between Welch and continuing up to the Quarry Extension near the turn to the Emergency Department) in order to facilitate ongoing utility work. This reduces Quarry to a two lane, two direction road during this time. Access will be maintained to the Emergency Department at all times.
On Monday, 6/25, regular power shutdowns are scheduled to occur from 10 pm until 5 am at both 780 and 1000 Welch Road. These shutdowns are being coordinated directly with the affected properties.
Work will continue to construct a new road near the Blake Wilbur Clinic and 1101 Welch Road. This road will ultimately serve ambulances from Welch Road into the New Stanford Hospital facility. Rough grade work for the new road surface from Ambulance Drive to South Pasteur Drive is underway. Trenching work may begin next week alongside the Blake Wilbur Clinic in order to complete the new hot water line installation. Pedestrian detour signage is in place on Blake Wilbur Drive. Access to the clinics will be maintained at all times.
Grading and utility work will continue in the Blake Wilbur parking lot.
Work will continue to install a new hot water line on Quarry Road. A portion of this work will continue to take place outside of the K-Rail in the Quarry Extension. Access to the Emergency Department will be maintained at all times.
Curb and gutter work will continue on Welch Road between N. Pasteur and S. Pasteur Drive as well as between 777 and 801 Welch. During this time, the lower path at Packard Children's next to 777 Welch will be closed. The upper path alongside the Packard driveway remains open. Signage is in place to assist pedestrians.
Please be cautious of construction trucks entering the road. Access to the Emergency Room will be maintained at all times.
