Owner Newsletter Summer 2015
Aloha to all of our Owners

The Summer Solstice heralds the beginning of summer in the Northern Hemisphere. In 2015, the summer begins on June 21 at 12:38 P.M. EDT. For most of us at GVR, however, who have keiki attending local schools, June 3rd heralds the beginning of our summer!  Luckily the island offers plenty of opportunities to entertain and educate our kids for two long months of summer vacation. Art and Dance Programs, various Sports Camps, Surf Camps, Junior Lifeguards and Summer Sailing Camp are a few of the activities offered to our island keiki.  These camps supplement the many hours that will surely be spent simply enjoying time at the beach with family and friends.

One of our peak seasons for island visitors is from June 15 through Labor Day. We are prepared for a busy summer ensuring that our guests experience attentive and exceptional service and a memorable Kauai vacation with Great Vacation Retreats.

We wish you all a vibrant and happy summer holiday!

GVR Superheros in action at Poipu Beach Athletic Club

Our GVR ohana had fun at Poipu Beach Athletic Club for the themed 3v3 basketball tournament.

Serious action (antics?) went down on the basketball half courts as the PBAC TEAM (Anthony, John, Eric, Kelsey & Nicole) took on TEAM RETRO (Darren, Brenden, Sean, Camille & Heather) and the GVR SUPERHEROES (Darren, Blake, Scott, Heather, Blythe, Blu and Presley).

VRMA Conference Highlights - Linda Sylvester (Owner Liaison)

I had the pleasure of attending a VRMA (Vacation Rental Managers Association) conference last week in Portland, OR with Lynn Hufschmid, our top Realtor reservationist.

It was great to be among some of the best managers in the business and see so many bright, young stars leading the industry and taking us into the future. Great Vacation Retreats is definitely on track with our superior software, massive marketing platform and communication.
I think the largest benefit was seeing the industry
from a macro perspective and understanding where it is headed. The new electronic locking systems are certainly a huge benefit toward more security, customer efficiency and key tracking. I will have more information on this in the future.
Smart televisions, wifi, key-less entry, cable boxes -- there are so many different tech items in homes these days it is a challenge to manage. The conference gave us some insight into ways that other managers are handling this growing opportunity by the use of universal remotes and streamlined wifi passwords.

The vacation rental industry is still in its infancy. There are so many exciting growth opportunities for legal vacation rentals. Kauai has started to close some of the rentals in non-VDA (Visitor Desitination Area) locations. Only ten percent of the vacationing public are using vacation rentals so there is plenty of room for continued growth. Off-season is booking up nicely this year. Here's to a fabulous 2015!
We love our Koloa Office
Owners that have visited our office recently have enjoyed egg plant, kale, green onions and fresh herbs from our garden including Thai Basil, Mint, Rosemary and Thyme. We have planted Papaya, Lemons, Kaffir Lime and Bananas and look forward to sharing future harvests with you. We will continue to expand on our garden and maximize the wonderful space and favorable growing climate that we have available to us at our Koloa office. Guests that stop by when they first arrive to say hello, book an activity or pick up beach gear are delighted when we suggest they help themselves to fresh herbs and veggies on their way out. Soon we will have ripe mangoes to share as our tree in the back is loaded.
Certainly the very best blended mango Margaritas are made with sun-ripened mangos from the Garden Island?
