Keeping In Touch
Summer/Fall 2017
A Message from our President:
I hope everyone's enjoying Summer so far?

Last month I attended the Chapter President & National BOD Meeting in San Diego, CA, where I experienced the camaraderie I need to sustain me as a massage professional.

My respect for the AMTA and my commitment to the profession was deepened. Being in the company of so many successful colleagues and participating in the decision-making processes of the single greatest force within the massage profession, was inspiring.

There have been several successful national initiatives specifically geared toward enhancing the Volunteer experience. Relationships of chapter-to-chapter as well as chapter-to-nationals are changing, in my opinion, for the better. Member input is taken seriously.

The association is looking into ways for larger, more affluent chapters to assist the smaller chapters like us, who often struggle with a shortage of volunteers and funds. There are already several means in place for members to receive financial assistance to attend conferences and meetings.

The support is there and it's right here, too! The national staff and BOD want to be certain every member knows they may contact them directly with any concerns or questions.

As practitioners, many of us feel professionally isolated however one of the biggest benefits of being an AMTA member is the Local Chapter opportunity. Although you "can't get there from here" in Vermont, there are many ways to engage with our Vermont colleagues.

Your BOD and Committee Chairs have been hard at work creating opportunities for you to participate, so come to the party!

If travel or schedule is difficult for you there are a host of volunteer things that are available to do during your daily life! Like knowing folks from a farmer's market.
I encourage each and every one of you to get involved in our chapter as a volunteer in some way. Your magnificent Board of Directors has wonderful ideas, but without more help we cannot implement them.

Do you love farmer's markets?
If so, there's a way you can help our chapter; we're looking for vendors to set up and sell their wares at our November Ed Event 11/11 & 11/12. This is open to any loosely related wellness products, ie: soaps, crystals, essential oils, footsie rollers, etc for our annual continuing education event at the Lake Morey Resort.

The Busy-ness of the Massage Room:
To Cell or Not to Cell?
Is it just me or... have you noticed that clients do not actually turn their cell phones *off* during their massage therapy session? Oh, yes, I request that they do so, and the client agreeably shakes their head: "yes, yes, it's off, I've shut it off". And then, working on their body and 30 minutes into the session, while my mind is trancing out in its own world, (the way I prefer to be when I'm working on a client), I'll see it: the flash of light. The thumping of their phone against the ceramic dish where their jewelry is lying. The buzzing, thumping, jumping, flashing apparatus of technology: the cell phone. Not off. Not silent. It's alive and well and disturbing my mojo!
