VICTORY'S ARSENAL THEATRE PAYS TRIBUTE TO THE PLANES AND PILOTS THAT FLEW FOR OUR FREEDOM

Head to the Warbird Ramp for a daily showcase of select “warbirds” – historic military aircraft - and the stories of those who flew them in harm’s way.  Each aircraft type to be featured played significant roles in WWII, Korean War or other conflicts, and were made famous by the likes of the Doolittle Raiders, Tuskegee Airmen and other heroic pilots and crew members.

Starting on Wednesday, April 10th, Victory’s Arsenal Theatre will present an aircraft each morning at 10:00 am and again at 11:30 am in front of the grandstands on the SUN ‘n FUN Warbird Ramp. Each pilot or owner of the aircraft will share their unique personal insight and history of that warbird’s service. Featured aircraft include everything from a venerable Ryan PT-19 trainer to a twin-engine B-25 Mitchell bomber to an iconic tri-tail Lockheed Constellation once used as a transport by General Douglas MacArthur and President Eisenhower. HISTORIC MARKER UNVEILING

The Aerospace Center for Excellence is excited to announce the historic marker unveiling to recognize the 50th Fly-In of the SUN ‘n FUN Aerospace Expo. The SUN ‘n FUN Fly-In was founded in 1974 by members of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Lakeland Chapter #454, the Florida Sport Aviation Antique and Classic Association, and the Southeast Sport Aviation Council. The first fly-in took place on January 24-26, 1975. The marker pays special tribute to the founding and incorporation of the SUN ‘n FUN Fly-In.

The Aerospace Center for Excellence worked closely with the Polk County Historical Commission to establish an enduring symbol marking the 50th Fly-in of the SUN ‘n FUN Aerospace Expo.

The ceremony will take place on the opening day of the 50th Fly-In, Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at 9:30am in front of the main doors of the ACE building. The historic marker unveiling is exclusively included with admission to the Aerospace Expo. Celebrate this historical day with us!

Craig Tinder, the talent behind the Aces In Action Art Gallery, has captivated enthusiasts and collectors alike with his unique art approach of combining his detailed world history and military-themed artwork with actual relic fragments from the past. By working closely with museums, restoration shops, and aircraft boneyards from around the world, he takes what would be considered scrap pieces of aircraft, ships, and even tanks and embeds small fragments of them onto his canvas artwork to give his viewers a chance to “feel” the actual history of his art.
