SANCTIFICATION
The bible is full of difficult to understand words. One such word is sanctification. Just what does it mean?
Does it mean for a woman of God to wear long sleeves, long hair, no makeup, and a pious attitude? Hardly. Long sleeves, long hair, no makeup and being pious does not mean you are living a holy life. In fact, often it causes a person to be prideful, thinking they are better than others.
Sanctification comes from the Greek word hagiasmos which means purification. It means that we purify ourselves from a life of sin. It means we continuously want to please God more than we want to please ourselves.
It has nothing to do with the outer man. It is a work on the inner man, the soul. It means that we determine to do what God’s word says and turn away from a lifestyle of sin. It means we are led by the spirit and not by the flesh.
So many judge people by their outer appearance while God looks at our heart. Sanctification in simple words just means set apart for God. It means one has surrendered their life to the Lord, and they want to please him in word and deed more than please themselves.
