NO FAILURES – JUST LESSONS TO BE LEARNED
Years ago, a young boy that attended our church was told by his teacher in public school that he was stupid and that he would never learn anything. His mother told me what had happened, and I sat down with her son and talked to him. I told him that not knowing did not make him stupid, it only meant he had not learned it yet. I told him that he was smart and that he could learn anything that he put his mind to.
That young boy grew up and graduated with honors. The words that teacher spoke to this boy could have caused him to think: Why try, what’s the use, I am stupid. Thankfully, we were able to help him see that he wasn’t stupid, he just had not learned some things yet.
In Proverbs 18:21 it says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue…” If I recall correctly God spoke words in Genesis and life came. He spoke everything into existence with his words. We also do the same so we must choose our words carefully because they will either bring life or death.
I am thankful I helped this boy, because I had a mother that instilled life into me. She told me when I was very young that I could do anything that I put my mind to. I believed her, and because of her words, I know that I have become the person I am.
What words are you speaking over yourself? Have you failed? Well, my friend, you are not a failure because you fail. You are a failure if you quit and do not try again. Every one of us has failed, but we must choose to look at these “failures” as lessons to be learned. Remember, God gives us renewed chances every day of our life to try again.
In Lamentations 3:21 it says, “This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” God’s mercies never fail, and we will not fail either if we remember his faithfulness.
Let us remember Psalm 19:14 where it says, “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.” This should be our prayer every day, so we bring life with our words and not death to ourselves and others.
