MATTHEW 15:1-20

LESSON 3

After Jesus rebuked the Scribes and Pharisees (verses 3-6) for breaking the fifth commandment in their manner of dishonoring their parents he further rebuked them for the very source (heart) of hypocrisy.

He said in verses 7-8, “Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias (Isaiah) prophesy of you saying, ‘This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.’” He cited Isaiah 29:13. He nailed them by quoting scripture which they very well knew.

Many people, religious and non-religious, give lip service to God or acknowledge Jesus in words they speak, but without “heart” service. Their words are idle and hollow because they are not of true faith in their spirit. What is in their spirit, or heart, is what truly motivates them. A hypocrite, one who looks good and sounds good, but speaks from a carnal spirit, not the indwelling Holy Spirit.

Jesus spoke in Luke about the heart (spirit) of a good man and an evil man. He said in Luke 6:45_b“for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.” An unregenerated (unsaved) person cannot in true sincerity speak the wonderful things of God; they speak spiritual matters from insincerity or from lack of spiritual understanding. Yes, that is lip service only. Their heart is not with God, only their words or good deeds or a good “show.”

When your heart is right with God, nothing in life is more important to you than your relationship with Him.

HAVING A GOOD FORGETTER

In examining the life of the Apostle Paul, we see a man that was trained up to be a religious Pharisee. He was determined to do what he thought was right for the God that he had only “heard” about. He made it his life’s goal to irradicate anyone that didn’t believe what the scriptures taught. He went after every Christian he could find to bring them in to the court and have them put in prison or be executed because they opposed everything he had been taught.

When he met Jesus Christ on the Road to Damascus his entire life turned upside. Everything that he had been taught resounded as only half truths. His encounter changed him from the inside out. From the very beginning he was told how much he would suffer for the gospel’s sake in serving Jesus. He saw this price as a small price to pay to have a relationship with the savior of his soul.

Yet, there were times in the scripture that we see the remorse that Paul had over the deeds he had done earlier in his life. There were many regrets. In Philippians chapter three he talks of his “religious” credentials. He then goes on to say in verse 7, “But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.” He realized that all the things prior to conversion meant nothing. His money, his status, his accomplishments he counted them as “dung” that he might win Christ.

He was determined to forget his past and press on. If he hadn’t chosen to forgive himself, he could never have accomplished what he did for Jesus. All of it was behind him now, and he pressed on to the day that he would be with his Lord.

What about you? Do you have a good forgetter? Or do you allow yourself to be held captive in your past? I can assure you that when you ask for forgiveness that God truly forgives and then forgets. You will never have victory in your Christian life without forgiving and forgetting. Satan will try to bring your past up, but you mustn’t allow his words to control your destiny. Have a good forgetter my friends and press on like the Apostle Paul did, and you too will live a life of victory.

PROPHETIC WORD

Just as the eye of the hurricane gives a false security that all is well and that the storm is over, there is soon to come a transition that will deceive many. There will be a calming from storms, and many will perceive that it is the beginning of things back to normal. But, my children, it is a false peace. The eye of the storm is only a temporary place until the rest of the storm comes. And with that storm there will be much damage and much chaos like the earth has never seen. For I am in the storm to bring cleansing to the land. The land has been polluted with innocent blood and I must cleanse it. Just as in the natural you prepare for the rest of the storm; you must be prepared for what is ahead. It will seem as all is peace and safety, but sudden destruction will come swiftly. I would say that this is the time to enter into the ark of my peace and know that that is the only place that there is true safety from the storm. For as in the days of Noah, I shut him in with myself for the days preceding the wrath that came upon the earth. You must shut yourselves in my children, for in that place, the ark of my safety and the ark of my presence is the only place that true peace comes. I love you and want you to know that these days ahead will be hard for many that do not seek me. There will be cries and terror like you have never seen. So, come aside now, and enter in and be prepared for what is about to take place. The eye of the storm will come first, then the destruction. For those that dwell in me there will be peace saith the Lord.

PROPHETIC EXHORTATION

God is bringing some of you through a really tough place in your life. So while you’re there waiting for God to move on your behalf; By faith just begin to thank Him for what He’s done for you in the past and then you trust Him to do what you’re needing Him to do for you now. You can believe this my friend...IF God showed up and performed miracles in Joshua 6 when His servant Joshua was facing Jericho; Which by the way, was a fortified and tough city in tight lockdown. Then it’d sure be a good time for you to start confessing and believing in your heart... All that God’s Word tells you that He’s already done...Therefore you can know that if God did it for Joshua; He will most assuredly do it for you. Oh sure everything about Jericho looked totally impossible to Joshua...But it was right there in the midst of great IMPOSSIBILITIES that Jesus came to his rescue and said to him.."See I have given Jericho into your hand". (Josh. 6: 2a) In today’s vernacular I can almost hear our Lord saying to Joshua, “Don’t sweat it bro, you’ve got this; It’s a piece of cake for you”. Now all these many years later you too may be facing some pretty impossible looking situations in your own life...Oh but still you can rest assured that your loving Father God is saying to you just as He said to Joshua...”I will give Jericho to you”. You see to you Jericho is symbolic as that most difficult thing in your life; But you can know that...IF God did it before...He WILL do it again for you His child. So today, go ahead and stir up that little bit of faith you have left; And begin to believe God to bring you through it ALL in Jesus Name. Now you need to grab ahold of God’s Word and start BELIEVING that you’re about to be RECEIVING; And then you begin to proclaim it from your mouth...That what God did for ole Brother Josh and the children of Israel He WILL do for you. I’d say it’s about time for you to pick up your victory flag and by faith you start waving it high because you now know the truth that...The IMPOSSIBLE becomes POSSIBLE when Jesus comes on the scene of one’s life. Yes, (whether you’re feeling it completely or not) you just start praising God right there in the middle of your mess for His goodness; And for walking in on your most IMPOSSIBLE situation and BAM...God is placing His POSSIBLE stamp on what was heretofore totally IMPOSSIBLE. The good news is that God specializes in things that many have called IMPOSSIBLE; But you can trust Him to rename what has long since been labeled totally IMPOSSIBLE...To now it will read to you and to all...TOTALLY POSSIBLE. I’m feeling a hallelujah praise coming on from some of you out there; So you get ready, get ready, get ready; To BREAKOUT with your BREAKTHROUGH...For it is time for that great big IMPOSSIBILITY of yours to become POSSIBLE...All because of Jesus.
