LUST
Often, when we think of the word lust, we apply it to being a sexual thing. But there are many kinds of lust.
The definition of lust is: “A strong desire or craving for something or someone. Often it is sexual, but it is also a feeling of intense longing that can be directed towards physical attraction, material possessions, or even power. It is a human emotion and often associated with negative consequences if not handled properly.”
People can lust after money. They just never get enough of it. They crave more and more until that is all they can think about.
People lust after power. They want to be number one and will do everything they can to be in that place.
People can lust after food. It is all they think about from the time that they wake up until they go to sleep. It controls their thoughts all day long.
People lust after many things, including drugs, pornography, sex, fame, fortune, power, and control, and money.
Lust is sinful when it is not controlled. In fact, Jesus said in Mark 4:19 in speaking of the word of God falling on thorny ground it was because of the lust of things. “19 and the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of OTHER THNGS entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.
1 John 2:16 describes it like this: “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is NOT OF THE FATHER, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever.”
Lust can destroy the word of God that you hear. It replaces your time spent with God and causes you to have a shallow walk with the Lord.
Don’t let lust of any kind control you. Discipline yourself.
