COVID UPDATE

Governor Walz talked about the vaccine roll out yesterday in his press conference. Minnesota is expected to see 183,000 vaccines that will be distributed to different groups first: Group 1A is front line workers and care center residents (over 500,000 alone in that group). Group 1B are essential workers. Group 1C are those with underlying health conditions and those over 65. The general public will follow. This vaccine is shown to be 95% effective which is quite amazing. The first vaccinations could be administered as early as December 21st.

This is a two stage vaccine with the second vaccine needed 3-4 weeks later. These doses will be coming later but are reserved for MN. There were 4 bi-partisan leaders in the room with the Governor to show support - through all the differences - of the importance of getting vaccinated. They were all in agreement that getting kids back in school is priority.

The vaccine is provided by the Federal government. There is some latitude within each state, but they must stay within the guidelines for the most part. There is a vaccine allocation team...Governor Walz will continue to trust the science and the experts.

There is also a change to the quarantine requirements. A 10 quarantine with no symptoms or a 7 day quarantine coupled with a negative test after five days is acceptable. This hopefully will get more people tested and increase compliance which will help slow the spread. They still recommend being extra careful for the full 14 days - masking and social distancing. Shorter quarantines are not recommended when the exposure is someone from your own household.

There was some discussion about relief packages coming to the 100,000 Minnesotans whose unemployment is nearing it's end and for businesses and families hanging on by a thread. Governor Walz is hopeful that there will be something from the State by the end of the year, but is pressing the Federal government for more sooner than later.

WHO'S THAT MEMBER BUSINESS/BUILDING?
WHO'S THAT MEMBER BUILDING

The answer could leave you speechless, but if you strive for the right answer it's worth it!

Last weeks winner was Ed Arens from E&M Outdoor Services with Edward Jones/Brad Blazek's office. Buffalo is fortunate to have three Edward Jones offices to serve our community - all with a philanthropic heart. Did you know that the three offices combined have sponsored all of our Chamber events in 2020 and will again in 2021?

Email me at Sue@BuffaloChamber.org if you think you have the right answer! First one in gets put in a quarterly drawing for $10 of Buffalo Bucks!

COMMUNITY HAPPENINGS
THIS Saturday, December 12th 6:00 p.m.

Though the train won't be coming through Buffalo this year, you can still watch the concert and give to the food shelf! CP Rail has already donated to our Buffalo Shelf - keeping their commitment to donate $1.24 million to 201 food banks in communities that ordinarily host CP Holiday Train events bringing the total amount of money raised at CP Holiday Train stops to $19.05 million since the train's inception in 1999. Food banks have also collected 4.8 million pounds of food donations at local Holiday Train events.

"For more than two decades, the CP family has supported Canadians and Americans in need through the CP Holiday Train program," said CP President and CEO Keith Creel. "In a year full of challenge and loss, we will host this concert as a call to action for the train's supporters to donate generously if they can this Christmas season. The spirit of the Holiday Train will come alive even though the train itself will not operate due to the COVID-19 pandemic."

Concert is this Saturday, December 12th at 6 pm on their Facebook page:
