Welcome to the SUPREME Semiannual Newsletter. At our Center for SUPeRior Energy-efficient Materials and dEvices (SUPREME), we are dedicated to demonstrating materials and technology breakthroughs needed to address the seismic shifts identified by the semiconductor community. We are committed to student participation at all levels and support interdisciplinary education of the workforce for the future of the semiconductor industry.

From the Directors' Desks

Over the last year, SUPREME enhanced its standing as a vibrant platform for collaboration with now 28 PI-led groups working on 41 tasks—6 of them new after the mid-program realignment (MPRA). Cross-center collaborations of SUPREME PIs are now spanning the JUMP 2.0 centers ACE, CHIMES, CoCoSys, CUBiC, and PRISM.

For the year ahead, we are excited to host the 4^th Annual Review on July 21-23, 2026 in Ithaca NY. The 2.5-day event will include tours of the research laboratories at Cornell, to feature the whole gamut of research by SUPREME researchers and stimulate discussions on current projects. The well-established format of a two-day review with presentations and posters by center members, will also include a dedicated career event highlighting some of the JUMP 2.0 sponsoring companies. Additional details will be provided in the next few weeks.

Furthermore, we are excited to host the second cohort of undergraduates thanks to our NSF-funded “REU-Site: Summer Research Program at SUPREME,” for which we have received 580 applications! Our REUs will join the SUPREME Annual Review and showcase their summer research. We are looking forward to an exciting year 4 of the Center.

Azad Naeemi is a Dean's Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He is interested in modeling and design for nanoelectronic devices and their applications in traditional and emerging computing paradigms. 

Hari Nair is an assistant professor in Materials Science and Engineering at Cornell University. He brings in over 15 years of expertise in thin film synthesis of materials ranging from III-V semiconductors to complex oxide superconductors to ultra-wide bandgap semiconductors. As part of SUPREME his group will investigate ALD of metallic delafossite oxides.

Jeehwan Kim joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering faculty in 2015 and DMSE as a joint faculty member in 2016. Before MIT, he was a research staff member at IBM’s Thomas J. Watson Research Center, conducting research in photovoltaics, 2D materials, graphene, and advanced complementary metal-oxide semiconductor devices.
