Important Procedures Regarding Student Drop Off & Pick Up

Student Drop Off (7:30 to 7:45) & Pick Up (2:15)

For the safety of students, and the consideration of our neighbors as well as all, please remember to:

  • Know the different zones: DROP OFF, PARKING and NO PARKING.

  • Drop off the student/s ONLY in the DROP OFF ZONE.

  • Have student/s exit from the RIGHT side of vehicle, ready with supplies.
  • If a parent or guardian needs to assist the student/s, go to the END of the drop off zone.

  • Stay with your vehicle.
  • If you need to pick up your student, park in PARKING ZONE and wait along the sidewalk.

  • Move with the flow of the traffic.
  • Don’t TURN AROUND on 41st Street. Instead, consider W 40th Street or W 40th Lane.

  • Pull all the way up BEFORE dropping off or picking up your student.
  • Staff will help students get to and from their vehicles.

Thank you for doing your part in keeping students safe!

A Message from Health Services

Should my child stay home from school?

In general, the following information is intended to help decide when a student should stay home:

  • Fever of 100 degrees or more. The student is to stay home for 24 hours after the temperature returns to normal without the use of fever reducing medication.
  • Vomited or had diarrhea. The student is to stay home until 24 hours after the last episode.
  • Any uncontrolled cough.
  • Rash for which you do not know the cause. Check with your family physician/clinic before sending the student to school.
  • If feeling ill/unwell and will not be able to fully participate in school activities.

COVID testing is recommended for students with COVID illness symptoms. Tests are available at school. If your student tests positive, notify the school attendance line and a health services staff member will follow-up with the appropriate guidance.

When keeping your child home call the 24 hour school attendance line to report the illness at 952-928-6693

Middle School Students inspire "Idle-Free SLP" City Initiative

Seventh Graders Suwaydah Aden, Ibtisam Ahmed, and Erin Enright coined the term "Idle-Free SLP" during their Climate Action presentation last spring during science class. Their slogan and presentation have since served as inspiration for a new initiative in Saint Louis Park to reduce carbon emissions in our school parking lots.

As you pick up and drop off your kids this year, you may notice some new “Idle-Free SLP” signs. That’s because the City of St. Louis Park, in collaboration with Park Nicollet, is launching a student-driven idling reduction campaign for cleaner air and healthier lungs. Idling, or running the engine while parked, can produce more tailpipe emissions per minute than driving and has been linked to asthma symptoms, heart and lung disease, cognitive issues, and premature death. Children are even more vulnerable to air pollution than adults because they breathe more air per pound of body weight and their respiratory systems are not yet fully developed. This makes idling near schools – one of the most common idling scenarios as parents wait to pick up their children – especially dangerous.

Learn more and get involved by checking out the city website or by attending our poster-making session on Thursday, October 13 at St. Louis Park Middle School from 4-5 p.m. Snacks, beverages, and poster-making materials will be provided. Click here to register in advance.
