Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Also known as African American History Month, the event grew out of “Negro History Week,” the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating Black history. | |

Our team is in the planning season for the garden and we're so excited to share with you that our Garden Team will be indoor seed starting with grades Kindergarten through 2nd grade in April. We will be starting seeds indoors on April 8, 11, and 12. There may be a day where we need a volunteer or two; we will share a sign up closer to the date in the Communicator.
Seeds the students will be starting indoors include tomatoes, pumpkins, flowers, squash, herbs, sunflowers, peas, and more! If you would like to see a certain variety of fruit or vegetable, please let us know, we would be happy to see if it's a good fit for our garden.
We will be starting outdoor garden sessions with ALL grades in late April or early May, weather permitting, but will be back in the garden on our usual days, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9-11am. Volunteers are ALWAYS welcome!
Let's get growing this season!

The Silent Auction is Now Accepting Donations
Saturday, March 16 - Friday, March 22, 2024
We’re looking forward to another great Silent Auction and we need your help!
Over half of the money raised in last year’s auction - $10,000+ - was contributed by parents, teachers, and staff! Thanks to the funds raised from the silent auction, the PTO was able to cover 100% of last year’s and this year’s yearbooks, add the Fall Festival event, fund additional field trips, and contribute winter clothing and other needs for the school.
This is where you come in! We are looking for items, events, or experiences of all sizes and we know our Susan Lindgren community has a wealth of great ideas and connections.
Items could include anything from:
- gift certificates to local restaurants, a basket of homemade scones, tickets to local sporting events, personalized watercolor painting, themed baskets (coffee, games, cooking, etc), a weekend stay at a cabin, or private tour to a local brewery!
Experiences (hosted by and for SL families) might include:
- attend a family kickball and pizza night, glowball party for the whole family, donuts at the park with classmates, adults wine and whiskey night, or an afternoon ice skating at the ROC.
Donated items are now accepted online! You can submit your donated item or experience directly on the auction website, sle.betterworld.org/donate-an-item.
-Do you, a family member, or friend have a cabin?
-Do you have an interesting job you can share? A tour?
-Do you have season tickets to a local athletic team?
-Do you have a neighbor/friend/relative with an interesting connection or hobby?
-Do you have a special skill you can share? Maybe you like to bake, carve wood, teach a yoga class?
Have an idea but not sure how it can be used? Reach out and we can brainstorm something together. Contact susanlindgrenpto@gmail.com with any questions.
