Our in person time together comes to a close. As we focus on packing and travel details, let's try to keep shining our gratitude, kindness and respect on one another and our hosts at Radford. Dear friends, safe travels to all, and keep the light you've kindled here at SUUSI shining out in the great wide world for the year to come. See you next year!

Closing Circle

Due to concerns about timing tomorrow (Saturday) morning, we have changed Closing Circle to be at 9am at Pocahontas end of Moffett Quad where we started our Banner Parade on Sunday. Please carefully read the departure instructions further below. Our 10:30am checkout time is earlier than past years so we need to adjust accordingly. This is an important time for folks to say their last goodbyes and sing our song to each other: “Good friends, good friends, let me tell you how I feel. You have give me your treasure. I love you, so.” Our circle format will look a little different as we will be adjusting to be more accessible and accommodate two seated circles as part of our shape. SUUSI staff will be there to help direct you!

We hope you will join us at 9am. You will still have a little time to turn in your keys after closing circle ends at 9:30am if you haven’t done so already. Turning in keys must be done by 10:30am in your individual residence halls. Check out time is dictated by the needs of Radford staff, so please respect it. We want to be able to return!

SUUSI 2024 Survey: We Want Your Feedback!

The Core Staff and Board are eager to hear your thoughts about your experience at this year’s SUUSI. Please fill out the SUUSI survey while your memories are still fresh! We encourage everyone in your family to fill out a survey, if possible. The survey is a large part of how we make SUUSI better each year.

Youth and middlers (everyone under age 14) should fill out the youth survey (it is fine to have a parent type their answers). The 14+ survey has the most important questions up front (taking 5 to 10 minutes) and is estimated at 35 minutes if all questions are answered.

SUUSI Helpline on Departure Day

It is time for SUUSI to come to a close and for us all to travel back to our homes, carrying a piece of our beloved week together along with us. But if you've got a question before you go, the SUUSI Helpline will be available 8 - 11am on Saturday. Call (540) 534-1575, then press 1. Limited Star Car service will be available from 7:45 - 10 am by pressing 3 after dialing the Help Line number. Pastoral Care concludes at 8am.

Pastoral Care Concludes

Reminder that Pastoral Care is provided Monday-Friday at SUUSI this year, so our department is closed for the year as of 8am Saturday morning. Thank you to our Friday Minister of the Day Edith Love, and our Friday back-up MOD Brenna Clanton. If you see any of our MODs for the week, please give them your thanks! They include Michael Brown (also pastoral care coordinator), Jan Taddeo, Kimi Riegel, Stacy Mitchell, and Edith Love; back-up additional MODs Meg Barnhouse and Brenna Clanton, and advance pastoral care coordination Cindy Landrum!

Lost & Found

Did you lose something at SUUSI?  Although the SUUSI office will not be staffed on Saturday, you can still check the lost and found in Pocahontas 102 before 10:30am.

Beans & Rice Service Project Results

We donated $1,173.35 to the Beans & Rice pantry as well as several bins of food. Thank you SUUSI community!

Continue the HeaRT Journey

The Healthy Relations Team wants to extend our deepest gratitude to each of you for opening your hearts and being vulnerable throughout this week. Your willingness to share, listen, and engage in meaningful conversations has been truly inspiring.

As you return home and continue your journeys, we encourage you to practice using the restorative questions whenever conflicts arise. These questions can help foster understanding, healing, and stronger connections in all your relationships.

Questions for the one who did the harm:

  • What happened?
  • What were you thinking of at the time?
  • What have you thought about since?
  • Who has been affected by what you have done?  In what way?
  • What do you think you need to do to make things right?

Questions for the one who was harmed:

  • What did you think when you realized what had happened?
  • What has been the hardest thing for you?
  • What impact has this incident had on you and others?
  • What do you think needs to happen to make things right?

Thank you for being a part of this transformative experience.

SUUSI DEPARTURE INSTRUCTIONS

Packing Up

  • If you borrowed linens from Radford, place them all in the pillowcase and bring to the Radford Conference staff in the front lobby of your dorm
  • Leave any Radford pillows on the bed in your dorm room.
  • Please make sure you take ALL of your belongings. Check and double check. Neither SUUSI nor Radford will ship forgotten items.
  • When you leave your room, it must be completely empty of your personal belongings.
  • You do NOT need to return your bed to its original height.
  • All furniture must be returned to the original location in the assigned room.
  • Be careful of the floor and walls as you move furniture to avoid costly damage.
  • Room charges from Radford to SUUSI will be passed on to you.
  • Leave your room unlocked.
  • Did we mention you need to clear everything out of your room? Your own stuff, trash, stuff you don't want, anything that wasn't in the room when you arrived--PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE clear it all out before you go so other SUUSI volunteers don't have to!
  • Finally, we wish to stress to you the importance of removing EVERYTHING from your room when you leave. Thank you!

Trash and Recycling

  • Deposit all trash in the trash room on your dorm hall.
  • Do not allow trash cans in common areas to overflow.
  • Do not pile trash in the hallways or next to the trash cans.
  • Put recycled materials in the appropriate container in the trash room on your dorm hall.
  • Do not leave any trash in your room.
  • Charges from Radford to SUUSI for leaving trash in the room will be passed on to you.

Common Spaces

  • Any furniture which was moved into a lounge, etc. must be returned to its original location.
  • All personal belongings must be retrieved from common spaces.
  • Please generally straighten up and remove trash in common spaces you have been using this week. If you rearranged furniture, move it back to its original location.
  • As noted above, do not fill trash receptacles in common spaces to overflowing or leave additional trash alongside. Bring all trash to the trash room on your dorm hall.

Returning Keys and Building Access Cards

  • Room keys must be returned in the envelopes they came in. You will be charged a $125 lost key fee for lost and non-returned keys.
  • Radford Conference Assistants will be stationed at the front desk in the lobby of each dorm from 7:30 to 10:30am on Saturday. We strongly recommend that you have your key and card swiped in by a Radford staffer while you watch. This is the best way to ensure that you do not get charged for a missing key.
  • If you have family members staying in a different dorm, please make sure their keys and swipe cards are returned in the dorm they stayed in.

Move-Out Instructions

  • After 4pm today (Friday), SUUSI-ites can move their cars from long-term parking lots on campus including M, HH, N, JJ, and AA. Please reserve lots I (eye), EE and DD for people with mobility issues and for loading up Saturday morning. After 4pm today (Friday), metered spaces will not be ticketed, but designated disability spaces still require the appropriate tags as always.
  • Carry all your things to the designated move-out area closest to your dorm - most likely, the same place you unloaded your car for move-in.
  • Once all your gear is outside, move your car to lot I, EE or DD.
  • Load your vehicle quickly and move so other SUUSI-ites can do the same.
  • A limited number of Star Cars will be available from 7:45 - 10 am Saturday for rides on campus. Reservations are helpful - call (540) 534-1575 and press #3 to schedule a ride.
  • Radford staff will be driving a golf cart between Heth Plaza and long-term Parking Lot E. Please do not call Star Car for transportation to long term parking.
  • Oh, did we mention, make sure you've removed all non-Radford items from your room before you move out? Please and thank you!
