Are you planning to return to SVA next year?
The admissions window for 2017-18 begins on December 12, 2016.

Students may wear any colors they wish and are not required to wear a collared shirt. All other dress code policies are in effect including skirt length, heel height, too baggy/too tight, etc.

If your child's name is legibly written on an item, it will be taken to their classroom...if there's no name to be found it will be donated.
Please check at home to be sure the items you have (like green SVA hoodies) belong to you. It's easy for students to mix them up at school.

Dress Code Reminder
Please take a moment to look over our dress code policy. Some common infractions we are seeing frequently include blue shirts and jackets with patterns or in colors other than those approved in the dress code shown below. Thanks for your support in this matter.

Staff and students at SVA receive explicit instruction and modeling of how to develop a growth mindset. Growth mindset is the core belief that abilities are malleable rather than fixed and is based on new insight on the structural, physical effects of learning on the brain (Dweck, 2006).
In contrast, in a fixed mindset, people believe their basic qualities, like their intellect or aptitude, are simply fixed traits. They believe that talent or inherent ability alone creates success. When students and educators have a growth mindset, they understand that intelligence can be developed through dedication and hard work.
Understanding that intelligence is not a fixed characteristic and that all people share potential for learning and growth will help you support your children as they grapple with academic challenges.

This documentary chronicles the rarely told narratives of Gypsy survivors of Nazi persecution in Romania as they remember their experiences during WWII in the context of their lives today.
During WWII, Gypsies were slated alongside Jews and other populations for extermination. In each country occupied or allied with Nazi Germany, their fate was similar. Nearly 500,000 are supposed to have perished due to systematic extermination, forced marches, starvation, exposure, diseases, and abuses.
The Gypsies' experience critically altered their lives. Survivors share with viewers their shocking deportation from Romania to camps where they fought to survive by any means necessary. Hidden Sorrows reveals the continued struggle of Gypsies for equality in a society that views them as second-class citizens. It examines the present impoverishment of the survivors and their descendants as well as discrimination facing them daily.
