SVPD hosts Teen Talk on internet safety
The Sierra Vista Police Department invites teens ages 13-17 and their parents to a free class focused on how to stay safe online.
Teen Talks: Internet Safety and Protecting Yourself from Online Predators will be held at the Sierra Vista Police Department Auditorium on Wednesday, Feb. 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. Attendees will learn how to protect themselves and their children from online threats. Parents are encouraged to participate with their children so that everyone has a better understanding of the advantages and pitfalls of surfing the web.
SVPD detectives, in conjunction with the Arizona Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, will share short videos and real-life experiences before guiding an open discussion on each topic. The class will cover how to tell fake friends from real ones, what to include—and exclude—from your social media profile, and what to do when confronted by a cyberbully, sextortion, or other online threat.
Light refreshments will be provided and there is no cost to attend. Registration is required and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. To sign up, click here and fill out the registration form.
If there is sufficient interest, SVPD plans to host more Teen Talks in the future. For more information, contact SVPD Recruiter and Volunteer Coordinator Lilly Perry at (520) 452-7500.
