SVPD's Grady and Boutte receive lifesaving awards
Last week, the Sierra Vista Police Department recognized Officer Tracy Grady and Commander Lawrence “Butch” Boutte for saving the life of a young child on May 25, 2021.
That day, Officer Grady was on patrol when a woman ahead of her exited her vehicle in a panic and requested help with a young girl (just shy of 2 years old) in distress. Grady requested emergency medical assistance and took immediate action to aid the child who was unconscious and unresponsive.
Grady could not find a pulse. She began CPR, emergency breathing, and back blows. Commander Boutte was nearby and soon arrived on scene. Since medics had not yet arrived, Boutte decided to transport Officer Grady and the child to the Canyon Vista Medical Center in his department vehicle as Grady continued lifesaving efforts.
Just before they arrived at the hospital, the child regained consciousness and began to breath on her own. Hospital staff and medics took over and the child ultimately made a full recovery. But Grady’s efforts didn’t end there!
Officer Grady was invited to the child’s second birthday party. When she attended the party, Officer Grady helped the family arrange swim lessons for the child, because the incident had been caused by the child drowning.
Both Officer Grady and Commander Boutte received Lifesaving Award for their quick responses, clear thinking, and solid teamwork, which were directly responsible for saving the child’s life.
