Great Turnouts
·      CRAB 38 had a great turnout (250 attendees) and great weather. Thanks to John Hawk and John Lanting for having the patience to pull this event off after having to put up with the pandemic and all of its associated issues.
·      And the second Porsches and Pints event at SacYard showed that John Leet’s idea for these kind of events is right on. And if you are looking to get one of those black t-shirts we hear that John is ordering more to meet the demand.

Reminders for May
·      Registration for the San Simeon Tour (May 12-14th) is still open but Mike Willis reports that it will close any day now (room block is about to expire)
·      Porsche Parade registration closes on May 13th.
·      Rennsport Reunion VII - expect to see an announcement this month about how to sign up for volunteering to work a shift. The announcement will probably occur in the e-Brake News (in your email inbox on Tuesdays).
·      The unique Mexican Fiesta Lunch (Saturday, May 20th) at the McMahen’s residence is still open and is accepting your check.
·      And the TSD Rally (To the Foothills and Back) on Saturday, May 27th is your last chance to test out your skills (using the Richta timing and scoring app) before the big (100 cars) event at the Porsche Parade at Palm Springs in June.
·      Werks Reunion (August 18th) registration opens on May 24th at noon.

Tours
·      SVR Tour Chair, Rick Duste, has several tours coming up.
·      The first is a mid-week tour, Wednesday, June 7th. There is a flyer in this DRIFTER for this event. And I am sure he is looking for volunteers to be lead and sweep. And bring a radio (the Family Radio Service or CB). It makes the tour a lot more interesting.
·      Then two tours in July, the 15th and 29th. Details coming.
Porsche 75th Anniversary
·      Porsche Rocklin will be celebrating the 75th anniversary of Porsche with an event on Saturday, June 10th at their location.
·      Details are still being developed (it will be a daytime event).
o  They are looking to display some cars that are of specific colors. SVR members and 356CAR members are welcome to contact Nancy Coburn ([email protected]) regarding displaying your vehicle if you have a vehicle of the colors below:
§ Ruby Star Neo
§ Lava Orange
§ Mint Green
§ Riveria Blue
§ Guards Red
§ Fashion Grey
§ Irish Green
§ Speed Yellow

In Passing – Another Legend
·      SVR member Ray Johansen recently passed. Ray and MaryJane joined PCA in 1966. The Johansen’s are the original owners of a white 1965 356 Cabriolet. Ray served as President of SVR in 1971. Ray was also one of chairs for the very first CRAB in 1972 (along with Jim Karver and Rich Farlinger). Ray and MaryJane attended many of the Porsche Parades on the west coast and made several cross-country trips to Parades over the years.

Name Badge
·      Remember to wear your name badge at events.

SVR Ladies Events? The Porschettes
·      Our two new New Member Group Chairs, Gail Hubbard and Susan Green are interested in developing a few Ladies Events.
·      An initial social gathering is scheduled for June 1st at 4 pm at La Provence Restaurant in Roseville. You need to register (due to limited space) with Gail Hawk.
·      See the flyer elsewhere in this issue of the DRIFTER.
Formula e
·      Tag Heuer Porsche Formula E Team continues to lead the series after the 8th race (out of a scheduled 16 events) which ran in Berlin a couple of weeks ago.
·      There were 2 races in Berlin (7th and 8th in the series).
·      Antonino Felix da Costa did not finish the first race in Berlin but did finish 5th in the second race. He dropped one position (to 6th) in the Drivers’ Championship.
·      Series leader and Porsche Tag Heuer Team driver Pascal Wehrlein finished 6th in the first race and 7th in the second race at Berlin.
·      The next race is on May 6th in Monaco and can be seen live on the CBS Sports Network.
·      And watchout for that Jaguar TCS Racing Team. They are coming on strong.

SVR has been very busy! I hope you have had an opportunity to enjoy some of our events. Some have even garnered TV coverage!

Fox40 did a promo with us on the Porsches and Pints event at SacYard Community Tap House: check it out here

And then, Good Day Sacramento provided some coverage of CRAB38! You can view that segment here

Our May calendar continues the high level of activity. If you are looking for informal social meetups, feel free to join us at the First Saturday Breakfast or Porsches and Pints events. No registration required! If you feel more adventurous, we have tours, concours, and autocross on the calendar. And the McMahen's have a wonderful Fiesta Luncheon planned.

Do you have an idea for an event you would like to see SVR sponsor? Send me an email. I would love to help make it become a reality!
Last call registration closes on the 5th
The tour registration is now available at
Please note there is a 20 car limit for this tour.

Spring New Member Tour
By Steve Long
Membership Director

Hello to Spring! The rain has subsided (for now). The trees and flowers are coming out of hibernation. The same can be said for a certain brand of car which represents the largest marque car club in the world. PORSCHE!!!!   As if you didn’t know.

PCA Sacramento Valley Region leadership hosted the first New Member Tour of 2023 on April 15, 2023. Taxman be damned! Over thirty-five cars and sixty plus members enjoyed a lovely Tour from El Dorado Hills to Placerville to Fair Play and into the Shenandoah Valley arriving at Andis Winery in Plymouth. Lunch, libations, and fellowship were on the menu. A good time was had by all.

The mix of cars represented by our New Members was impressive. Many generations of the 911 Carrera, Boxster, Cayman, GT3 and even a Guards Red Cayenne were present. We were to have a rare 944 sighting as well, but it wasn’t in the cards.
Thank you to Eduardo Ortega once again for helping liaise with Andis Winery and Rick Duste, Tour Chair, for an excellent route, instructions and organization. Well, except for that bus stop melee we created.

Our PCA Tours can be a ‘gateway drug’ to other competitive events such as Road Rally and Auto Cross. Get out and enjoy your car. Let your competitive juices flow!

If you missed the Spring New Member Tour, we will host another in October. If you would like to host a Tour of your own, it’s not difficult. Rick Duste is a GREAT Tour Chair. He is happy to make your idea for “the perfect roads and lunch spot“ a reality. Remember, SVR is only as good as we make it. Be safe and see you at an event soon!

2023 SVR - Porsche Rocklin Autocross School Graduates
By Collin Fat
Photos by Collin Fat
SVR Autocross Chair

The annual Porsche Rocklin- SVR Autocross School Day 2 event was held at Thunderhill Raceway Park in Willows, Ca. on March 18th under cloudy but rain free conditions. It was surely cold with morning temperatures hovering just above 40 degrees. Enough to justify wearing an extra few layers of clothes.

There were 32 students in attendance who were aided by a cadre of 19 instructors. All instructors volunteered their time to assist. I would like to thank the following instructors for their help: Alan Booth, David and Mary Borden, Lanny Bowden, Matt Deter, Collin Fat, Weyland Fat, Lloyd Feaver, Mark Hansen, Martin Messersmith, Joy and Steve Nieslony, Bob Peake, Patti Osterholm, David Schnitzer, Mike Willis and Larry Sharp.

The morning began with students and instructors participating in 4 exercises that emphasized different vehicle dynamics; slalom, skid pad, braking, and mini course. All students got to do each exercise at least 4-6 times culminating in the mini course which combined skills learned in the other exercises. After lunch, all students received instruction on a timed course with in car instruction.
Graduates of the class of 2023 included:
The annual school is one of the more popular events that the club puts on and generally sells out due to limitations on the number of instructors that are available. If you missed out on the opportunity to enroll this year, watch the 2024 January Drifter for information on the next upcoming school and don’t delay in registering. It is a fun and educational way to learn about the handling capabilities of your Porsche and to meet some like minded members.
In The Zone
May 2023

Hello Zone 7,

Just returning from CRAB The Zone event hosted by Sacramento Valley Region. An army of volunteers had this multi event signature Begegnen (Gathering / Meeting) working like a Swiss Watch or more accurately humming like a Twin Cam 356 …and that is no small task. The history of the event is storied in legend. Ohhh and did I mention there was crab at CRAB? Well there was, and every face there was smiling … I can’t encourage you enough to put the next CRAB on you must do list.

Is your calendar now filling up?

I can’t encourage you enough to visit and bookmark the Zone 7 webpage. https://zone7.pca.org/

I wanted to give a HUGE shout-out THANK YOU to all who responded to my call for volunteers. The sheer number of you raising your hands to help is truly amazing. I wish I could put you all to work but there will be more opportunities to help in the future. There is now a full volunteer team.
