John Leet
Vice President

One thing I appreciate about the SVR community is their generosity. Dick MacFarlane has done an exceptional job as the Charity Chair in organizing so many events that have provided the opportunity for our members to give back to the community.

And most recently, Kelley Murphy took the baton in organizing our Chairty Auction with Ruth Stark and Tambra Kroetz. After many months of planning and promotion, SVR members stepped up to raise over $4,000 to benefit the Placer Veterans Stand Down group. Our generosity brought tears to the eyes of their representatives and will make a huge impact to their members. A huge thank you to Kelly, and to all of you who participated. Photos HERE.

On the lighter side, we also had a great turnout for Porsches and Pints at Loomis Basin Brewing. One of the owners, Jim Gowan, is a fellow Porsche-phile and staged the setup with his beautiful 997 Carrera. Next up is River City Brewing, the oldest still-operating brewery in the Sacramento region, for our October event. And...rumor has it that there could be a 'bonus' Porsches and Pints event added to the calendar in November. STAY TUNED!

The Junior's Tour was also a big success! Everyone met at El Dorado Hills Town Center for a tour up Salmon Falls Road to highway 49 through Coloma. We joined up with other attendees at The Apex in Red Hawk Casino for a pizza lunch and gaming. Following the conclusion of the PCA portion of the event, 14 of us battled it out on the karting track. Congrats to Ethan Callanan who took the podium, followed by Cielo Zanone in second and Allie Howard in third!

Our SVR Juniors are not the only competitive folks in the bunch. Last weekend also featured the TSD Odyssey Rally, where the #1 car of Steve Long and Kent Langendorff took the win!

And finally, our September autocross event was part of the Zone 7 series, where drivers compete in various PCA regions vying for the top spot in class and pax. We have a number of SVR drivers who are in the mix for trophies, with 3 events left in the series.

Go SVR!

Message from the Tour Chair

By Rick Duste

Some of you know that I will be running for the Vice President position in the upcoming elections in November.  There has been an assumption that if I take on this role that I won’t be doing the Tours next year. Many of the Board of Directors/Officers wear multiple hats including chairing various committees that are responsible for executing events and support functions for the Club. I plan to continue with the Tours in 2025 albeit will welcome any help that steps up and offers to help.

Thursday November 7th is an important date to put on your calendar as it will be the annual Planning Meeting held at Round Table Pizza in Folsom.  We often get some of our best ideas thrown out at the meeting.  This year the day tours have generally been around 85 miles, 2-1/2 hours in duration, and try to have them end not too far away so the drive home isn’t too long.  I’ve been toying with the idea of doing an all-day event which could entail a much longer distance, lunch somewhere in the middle, roads we generally don’t get to see.  We will be planning a Ladies Tour next year which we will discuss at the Planning Meeting.  I’ve also had preliminary discussions with the Shasta Region about doing a joint tour somewhere north of I-80.  Generally overnight tours have been put on as a specialty tour organized and hosted by one of our members.     I welcome any feedback you have at our next Tour (Oct 5th),

by email at Tour@SVR-PCA.ORG, or at the Planning Meeting.

SVR Ride to Walk Project - YouTube

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Sxtsufid_g

In the early morning of Saturday, September 7th, club members from 356CAR and SVR arrived at the Ride to Walk ranch in Penryn for a day of community service. Ride to walk is a unique horseback riding therapy program that was founded by Dr. Kris Korn in 1985. It is a Non-profit 501 (c)(3). Over the years the program has grown and cultivated distinct techniques that provide personalized , progressive therapy and recreation for children and adults with neurological conditions.

In August, SVR member and owner of NorCal Tree Management Mike Ritenour, had 3 volunteer crews go to the 20 acre ranch and cut down dead trees that were endangering the horse stables and riding arenas. Our mission this Saturday morning was to clean up the branches left from Mike's volunteers and clean out an overgrown drainage ditch to prevent flooding to the ranch this winter. One thing's for sure...we were all glad that we started early in the morning because by noon it was getting hot!  All the volunteers kept their cool however and with a few rest stops here and there and a lot of laughter, the job got done! Sure, by the time we finished we were all pretty darn tired but with our rakes, pitchforks and weed wackers in hand we all felt a sense of accomplishment.

We would like to thank Mike Ritenour and his employees for all the great work they did as well as the SVR and 356CAR members who came out that Saturday morning and earned the admiration of Dr. Korn and all the children and adults that her program helps.
