1999 Porsche Boxster

2.5 liter, 5 speed manual

Owner: Bill Hayman

I have always been a Ford Mustang guy since I was 17. I’ve owned about 15 different Mustangs over my lifetime.

I purchased my very first Porsche (the ‘99 Boxster) about a year and a half ago. I use it strictly as a track car, and absolutely love it! I guess you could say I was a closet Porsche guy all my life and just didn’t know it until this little Boxster. I’ve done a lot of work on the car myself as well as had some shop work done as well.

I’m also a new PCA member and am looking forward to contributing and helping as much as I can.

Hey SVR Porschephiles!

Have you checked out the SVR website recently (svr-pca.org)? Our newly appointed webmaster Jack Quan, partnering with VP Rick Duste, has done a fabulous job with some visual updates after many years of the same look (see Rick's message below). The event calendar has also been updated to provide additional functionality. Updates will not stop there. We will be adding more detail around all of our various events - Tours, Rally, Concours, Social, etc. - so you will be able to easily find updates for your favorite category.

This coming week, we will hold our second board meeting. These are held on the first Tuesday of every month. We have moved the location of these meetings to the Round Table Pizza located at 8822 Madison Ave. in Fair Oaks. These meetings are from 6pm - 8pm. As always, any SVR member is welcome to attend our board meetings. So, if you are interested in hearing the discussion or would like to consider participating in a board or chair role with the club, please come! As an added incentive, SVR will provide pizza and non-alcoholic drinks for all attendees.

Our event calendar is starting to ramp up with the expectation of fair weather ahead. The First Saturday breakfast was well attended, with over 30 members attending. The Pearts are hosting their annual pre-Valentines dinner, and if you are interested in learning how to be a lead or a sweep at one of our tours, Rick Duste is holding a Zoom meeting on Feb. 12th.

And, for anyone interested in honing their driving skills, the autocross school is highly recommended! It will be held in early March. If interested, sign up soon as this class is typically in high demand and has limited space available.

Is there an event that you would like to see? We welcome any ideas!

Vice President/Tour Chair

The Club Website update and refresh has begun. Webmaster Jack Quan has been hard at work. The biggest change so far is a new Google based events calendar. Events now have easy links to event flyers as well as clickable link to the MSR registration site, if applicable.  Now you can easily go to the website calendar to find all the club events and the latest information.  Being Google based, you can link it to your personal calendar should you wish and get real time updates as they occur.   More changes will be coming soon so stay tuned.

SVR Logo items are now available on the PCA Webstore. Twenty items in three colors including men’s and women’s shirts, sweatshirts, pullover, jackets & parkas, and hats sporting the SVR logo and in many case the Porsche wordmark on the back are pictured on the site.  The direct link is www.pcawebstore.org/regions/SVR.   Thanks to Linda Bradford for assisting with the women’s selections and sizes.

You asked for it, you got it – Tech Session #1 is scheduled for May 27 and will be held at Porsche Sacramento. Collin Fat has arranged for experts to teach us about suspensions and brakes.   Attendance is limited so register soon on MSR.

Two social dinner events coming up soon. The annual Pre-Valentines Dinner hosted by Cyndee Peart is Monday February 10th at Palermo Restaurante Italiano in Elk Grove.  And John Mueller and Michael Born has scheduled the Speedsters Band Party & Dinner at Churchill Arm’s Pub in Folsom on Thursday March 13th.   Details can be found on the website calendar.

CORRECTION:

·        EBLAST sent Thursday, January 30th had an error. The SVR Backroads Driving Tour to Chico is on Tuesday, April 22nd, not April 20th. And registration opens Saturday, February 1st.

Racing Updates (since I talked about it in the January DRIFTER, I figured I should follow up with results)

Formula E

·        The race on January 11th in Mexico City was won by Oliver Rowland, driving a Nissan.

·        The Tag Heuer Porsche Team took 2nd and 3rd places (Da Costa and Wehrlein). Wehrlein started on the pole and Da Costa started 2nd).

·        Da Costa is the series leader (16 races scheduled this year) with 37 points after 2 races. Wehrlein sits in 4th place with 21 points.

·        Jeddah is the site of the next two races on February 14th and 15th

·        TV coverage in the United States is typically handled by CBSSports (cable)

Rolex 24 at Daytona

·        The Penske Porsche Team again won the race for the 2nd year in a row. The second Penske Porsche 963 finished in 3rd place.

·        The other two Porsche 963 vehicles in the class were running at the end of the 24 hour race.

·        The Iron Dames Team (car #83) that I was following closely during the 24 hour race finished in 8th place in the GTD class. This was the team that had 4 women drivers. They were competing in a Porsche 911 GT3 R (992)

The next IMSA race will be the Twelve Hours of Sebring. Practice and qualifying begin March 12th with the race occurring on March 15th.

To be a host for a dinner,

lunch, or brunch

Our club thrives with the generous efforts of our members

providing social opportunities for the rest of us. There are many examples on going such as Porsches and Pints, tours,

Saturday breakfast, etc. However, we need more opportunities to “share a meal - break bread together”.

As of this writing there will be the pre-Valentines dinner

In February, and there is a dinner event being planned for March. That means the months of April through October are available for members to be hosts inviting the rest of us to enjoy your favorite restaurant within our Sacramento region.

So please let me know your ideas for hosting so we can get dates on the 2025 calendar!

Thank you!

SVR Board Hard at Work Preparing for 2025

By Collin Fat

Photos by Jack Quan

Your newly elected board of directors and chairs participated in an all-day training session held at Porsche Sacramento on January 12th to prepare for the coming year.

The board orientation included a review of the club’s current bylaws and policies, their responsibilities as a board, how PCA National supports its more than 146 regions in 14 Zones throughout the United States, what resources are available to the region in terms of financial assistance or management, liability insurance that is provided by PCA National, event management and a host of other topics.

The meeting was led by Collin Fat who reviewed the board’s responsibilities, insurance management and coverage, and how PCA National is organized to assist the region. Brian Adkins, PCA Zone 7 Representative, covered popular topics covered in the Region Procedures Manual. Ranging from event minimum standards and guidelines, region bookkeeping guidelines and document retention policies among the key discussion topics. Rik Larson honed -in on explaining the intricacies of our current Bylaws as well as our current set of policies and procedures.

Nearly all our board members were in attendance as well as many of our appointed chairs. SVR President John Leet hopes to make this an annual meeting for all new board of directors.

What is your favorite activity? Cars & Coffee, Tours, DE, Autocross, Concours, Social events, surfing the web or Social Media? Or a multiple focus. How about Rally? The Sacramento Valley Region (with Steve Long spearheading) is working to develop a program as a TSD Rally 'Hub' for Northern California/Northern Nevada. By the time you see this you probably have (or will soon) receive your latest Panorama (Listed as the #1 member benefit) There is something special in there for you. If you wanted to snap a photo and post on our social media channels that would be really fun.

This is just the start of a yearlong celebration of PCAs 70th anniversary. 2025 is PCAs 70th Anniversary on September 13th. Look for lots of information and news about this from PCA National and your local Region.

Looking forward to seeing you at an event in 2025
