More than 50 student, district wide, will represent SVUSD (some students with special needs and some students without) at the first ever 2019 CIF SOUTHERN SECTION UNIFIED TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS WILL BE HELD SATURDAY, MAY 11TH at THHS. Kara Johnson, THHS teacher and Unified Sports organizer says her students, "have enjoyed every minute of Unified Track- from daily practices, camaraderie among each other, meets with other teams, endless support from Boys and Girls Track, and seeing/feeling their overall athletic improvement throughout the season. All of them say their favorite part of Unified Track is being part of a true competitive sport that represents their school. For most of our athletes, Unified Track is their only sport and has been their only opportunity to join a team that promotes inclusion, friendship, athleticism, and striving for success. The hard work, dedication, and commitment of our athletes has paid off in a massive way! 16 of our athletes (special ed and gen ed students) have earned varsity letters in Unified Track, and we have started a new era of Unified CIF sports that we can't wait to continue to grow from!"
Congratulations to Mrs. Di Antonio,  Laguna Hills High School Two-Way Language Immersion Spanish teacher, and her students who participated in the Day of the Book celebrated in Spain on April 23 highlighting the literature masterpiece Don Quijote de la Mancha! A handful of highly selected International Spanish Academies across the country were invited to participate in this project where students had the opportunity to read a pre-assigned section of the text while demonstrating their creative Spanish skills.

Saddleback Valley Unified School District (SVUSD) participated in the School Readiness Educational Fair at Pretend City Children’s Museum in Irvine last month. School readiness is designed to nurture children, ages 0 to 5, helping them to learn and be successful. It focuses attention on parents, teachers and children working in partnership to make preschool an enjoyable and exciting opportunity. Our district validates this by supporting its Learning Link Preschool Program for parents and children giving them the opportunity to learn together. Marcela Ibañez, SEL Department School Readiness Coordinator, and Roya Ghanea, School Readiness Nurse, shared information on Pre-K to Grade 12 programs including Learning Link, Two-Way Immersion, and magnet schools. It was an engaging and interactive community event.
