Our elementary school teachers and administrators had a successful (virtual) Staff Development Day focused on math with a keynote speaker, Dr. Jo Boaler, who is the Nomelline & Oliver Professor of Education at Stanford University. Dr. Boaler shared the inspiration for and research to prove that all students can succeed.
After the keynote, instructional coaches and TOSAs facilitated professional development focused on increasing access to rigorous mathematics through conceptual understanding. Teachers learned about strategies to support conceptual understanding: task-oriented instruction and facilitating meaningful connections between concrete, representational, and abstract strategies.
