Robinson Elementary Special Olympics National Banner Celebration
Robinson Elementary School was honored as a Special Olympics National Banner School for the 2021-22 school year, becoming the first Elementary School in California to receive this honor. On Thursday, April 28th Robinson celebrated with a special morning assembly and evening presentation where the banner was revealed by the student leaders of the Unified Sports program at Robinson Elementary.
Vital Link OC Digital Media Art Competition
Congratulations to our student at Mission Viejo High School, Wynn Revere, who was awarded 1st place in all of Orange County for his Graphic Design work submitted to the Vital Link OC Digital Media Art Competition!
Assistance League of Saddleback Valley
The Assistance league of Saddleback Valley graciously donated $4,848.40 to support literacy and provide new library books to SVUSD Title I elementary schools.
Trabuco Hills HS Student Receives Paid Internship with CyberForward

OC High Schoolers Get a Jump on Cybersecurity Careers Following Summer Academy
A year ago, senior Michael Collins hadn’t really given much thought to the world of cybersecurity. Now, it’s a potential career. “Cybersecurity is really outside-of-the-box thinking,” said Collins, who attends Trabuco Hills High School in the Saddleback Valley Unified School District. “It forces you to think like an attacker, to try to find holes in your own solution in order to improve it and constantly make it better.”
SVUSD Offering Free Enrichment Classes to all Secondary Students
As part of summer school this year, SVUSD will be offering FREE enrichment classes to all secondary students. These courses will be taught by Saddleback Valley teachers and will be interactive, high-engagement opportunities for students to keep their academic skills strong. 
Classes will take place at Trabuco Hills HS from June 6th to June 23rd during two periods, Period 1: 8:30- 10:15 and Period 2: 10:30-12:15. Students may take up to two enrichment courses this summer and earn elective credit for both.

Rancho Cañada Elementary SOARs with a New Mascot!
Stay Safe, Offer Kindness, Act Responsibly, and Respect Others will be the new motto heard around Rancho Cañada Elementary School as staff and students engage in PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Support) to model and learn positive behaviors. All of Rancho Cañada’s educational partners had a role in the process of choosing the mascot, including a community-wide vote. Principal Jennifer Kadjasz announced the news by surprising students in their classrooms in an Eagle costume!

Student's Artwork Decorates Lomarena's Walls
SVUSD student artwork often graces the walls of the District’s Board Room. Dr. Mona Montgomery, Principal of Lomarena Elementary, noticed a piece that was particularly special to her – a drawing of a lion by Rancho Santa Margarita Intermediate student Aaron Zima. Lomarena’s mascot is a lion and Dr. Montgomery just knew that Aaron’s drawing needed to find its home at Lomarena. After making contact with Aaron’s teacher and communicating with his parents, Dr. Montgomery helped Aaron make his first sale as a young artist. His beautiful pen and ink drawing is now part of Lomarena’s PRIDE.

It’s Teacher Appreciation Day! Mrs. Andi Suter M.Ed. from Serrano Intermediate School in Lake Forest is one of the prominent name on students’ OCSEF applications in the last couple of years. We caught up with the 8th Grade STEAM Village Science Teacher, who’s finishing up her 27th year in the district this year.

Sharing Day
The SELPA Administrators of California held a Legislative Sharing Day on May 4th, 2022. South Orange County SELPA (Special Education Local Plan Area), which includes both SVUSD and LBUSD, and Capistrano Unified District SELPA combined resources and five parents from both the SOC SELPA CAC and the Capo CAC spoke to our legislators, Senator Pat Bates and Assemblywoman Laurie Davies about important legislation affecting our Special Education students and families. 

The morning activities included information on key bills SB1113, AB2121 and SB291, which cover various issues for Special Education students and their families. The Keynote speaker, Elijah J. Stacy, shared about his journey of overcoming challenges and facing diversity. 
South OC Community Advisory Committee Meeting
The South Orange County Community Advisory Committee (CAC) will be holding it’s final meeting of the 21-22 school year on May 18, 2022 at the LBUSD district offices at 5:00 pm. Please join the CAC for this important meeting; elections will be held for voting membership and all four positions on the executive board.

THHS Best Buddies Friendship Walk Buddy Pair of the Year
Katie Finn and Makenzie Watson have been Best Buddies all four years of high school. Throughout their 4 years, they've participated in many Best Buddies events together including; Celebrity Bowling events in Los Angeles, Holiday Parties with other SoCal Best Buddies Chapters, school performances and sporting events, leadership meetings, and so much more!
Special Olympics Southern California Spotlights MVHS Mark Chiljian
Special Olypmics of Southern California featured a Volunteer Spotlight article on Mission Viejo High School teacher Mark Chiljian. 
Kiwanis Club of MV Student Recognition Awards
Each year the Kiwanis Club of Mission Viejo recognizes students in the C.U.S.D. and S.V.U.S.D. schools located in Mission Viejo. Kiwanis honors students who have made exceptional effort in their studies and/or served the school or community through volunteer efforts. 

The Kiwanis Club of Mission Viejo Student Recognition Awards took place on April 26, 2022. Students from MVHS, Tesoro, CVHS were recognized.

SVUSD Unified School Games
On Thursday, April 7th, Trabuco Hills hosted SVUSD’s 2nd Unified School Games, celebrating 11 SVUSD school’s Unified Sports programs. Over 500 students participated as Unified Pairs working together through Unified Sports rotations including: Unified Cheer, Unified Flag Football, Unified Cornhole, Unified Soccer, Unified Kickball, and Unified Fitness. Thanks everyone for the district-wide support!
Bosch Donates to Trabuco Field Study!
The BOSCH Community Fund (yes the BOSCH you know that makes high-end dishwashers!) has again granted SVUSD money to contribute to the Trabuco Field Study’s EcoSTEM Immersion. This partnership has allowed almost 7000 SVUSD elementary students to attend field trips for free.

BOSCH is a great partner for us in supporting teacher innovation in Science and outdoor learning and ecological awareness for students.
Mission Viejo HS Chamber Singers & Treble Choir
MVHS students had the opportunity to work 1-on-1 with the wonderful faculty at Texas State University, as well as perform at amazing locations like the San Jose Mission (founded in 1720) and 180 feet below ground in the Natural Bridge Caverns! Additionally, both MVHS Chamber Singers & Treble Choir participated in the Bluebonnet Classic Choral Competition, as the only California school in the competitive field. BOTH choirs were awarded the class of Division 1 - Superior ratings, with the MVHS Chamber Singers taking home the coveted Outstanding Performance trophy for the entire competition!

2022-2023 Bus Pass Information
2022-2023 Bus Pass Sales for students attending Linda Vista Elementary, San Joaquin Elementary, La Paz Intermediate, and RSM Intermediate will begin on Thursday, May 19, 2022 and continue through Thursday, June 16, 2022.

Applications must be submitted online and are processed on a first come, first served basis.
Trabuco Hills HS Save the Children Golden Plate Award

Congratulations to the Trabuco Hills High School Save the Children Club for winning the 2021 “Clubsgiving” winter holiday fundraising competition. The club successfully raised $1,276.67 for vulnerable children this past holiday season, more than any other Save the Children Club in the US! As the Clubsgiving champion, the THHS Save the Children Club is the recipient of the 2021 Golden Plate Award, a trophy signifying their passionate commitment to improving the lives of children.
Valencia Elementary School Night of Giving

During the first week of April, Valencia Elementary School participated in Kindness Week. On Thursday, April 7th, the entire school community was able to participate in The Night of Giving lead by SEAKers. This event allows students and their families to move through kindness stations which include creating kindness rocks, making a birthday box or comfort bags for children in need, iCare kits for the military, Meals on Wheels notes and cards, and the list goes on and on.

The totals for this Night of Giving are as follows: 136 iCare packages, 123 Kindness Rocks, 75 Meals on Wheels Placemats, 40 Comfort Bags, 40 Birthday in a Box, 18 Tie Blankets, 68 Cards for Seniors and….. numerous NEGU cards of encouragement. 🧡 Kindness Week at Valencia is not just about creating Kindness at school, but also in the local community and beyond.
CIF Southern Section Academic Awards
The 34th Annual CIF Southern Section (SS) Academic Awards were announced on April 1, 2022. The team awards are based on a non-weighted cumulative grade point average. Ninety-seven teams across our four high schools submitted entries. CIF-SS received 2,009 team entries in total for the 2021-22 CIF-SS Academic Awards, and based on records; this marks the first time SVUSD schools have participated in the CIF-SS Academic Awards program.

El Toro Wins National Ceramics Show
Congratulations are in order for El Toro High School Students: Wilfredo Argueta (Best of Show 12th grade!) Michaela Arsene (Best of Show 9th &10th grade!) Zoe Carmack, Delfina Anderson Comas, Adolfo Corrales, Cathy Ellsworth, Mischa Miranda, and Peyton Neblett for having their ceramic art pieces accepted into the Juried American Museum annual High School show. 
The ceramic artwork from these students was selected from among the submission of high school students across the nation. Their works are featured in the virtual opening reception + awards ceremony online now through Aug. 31st, 2022.

El Toro High School Instrumental Music
El Toro High School Winter Percussion had a great competitive season. They placed 4th in their block at SCPA Championship Prelims and advanced to Championship Semi-Finals at Great Oaks on 4/10/2022, where they ended their season with an amazing performance!
El Toro Instrumental Music Department's Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra excelled at the San Juan Hills Festival on March 22 and March 23. Each ensemble received Unanimous Superior Ratings.
El Toro High School Winter Guard is capping off a very successful season this weekend! The team will be competing April 23 at 4:29 pm in the WGASC Preliminary Championships in the Scholastic A Division at UCI Bren Center. Please come to cheer on the team as they compete against 30 other teams for a position in Grand Championships on Sunday April 24 at UCI Bren Center.
