Spending Time with Second Grade
Ms. Urquhart is a native Houstonian, earning her BA and MEd at UST. First a parishioner and mother of her own five SVdP students before she began her teaching journey of 28 years—and counting. She is Neuhaus-trained with a love of teaching writing and spelling. Her favorite thing about teaching second grade is sparking enthusiasm and confidence in her students' creative writing. Mrs. Urquhart enjoys the beginning of the day because she loves seeing the fresh bright faces ready to turn on their engines and take off! In her free time, Mrs. Urquhart enjoys learning about history, listening to audio books, and making baby blankets.
Ms. Simons always knew she would be a teacher. She fulfilled her destiny almost 30 years ago, the last seven years at SVdP. Teaching allows her to be a positive influence, spark an interest in learning, and help her students understand they are smart and capable. Outside of school, Mrs. Simons enjoys reading, camping, and traveling with her husband and 9-year old daughter, Maddie.
Ms. Keenan was born and educated in North Carolina. Since moving to Houston, she has spent 40 years as an educator and Director of Admissions in private schools. Her love of being in the classroom brought her to SVdP as a prekindergarten teacher for many years. Now, she assists in the second grade with reading. Outside of work, Ms. Keenan keeps busy rooting for the Astros, baking homemade pies, going to the movies, enjoying quality time with my family and friends, and of course, reading.

Dr. Yuri McCoy - SVdP's New Choir Director
Hailed by Gramophone magazine as an organist possessing “rare virtuosity,” Dr. Yuri McCoy has made his mark on the organ world through bracingly original programming and a strong desire to shed a spotlight on less traversed areas of keyboard literature. Whether it is Niccolò Castiglioni’s rare and bizarre Symphony of War and Peace, or his own transcription of Edgard Varese’s massive orchestral work, Amériques, for organ, percussion, and assistant, Yuri enjoys the opportunity to share new and unusual sounds with audiences. He also supports the music of living composers and in 2006 premiered “Voices of the Invisible Blue Butterflies” by Vache Sharafyan at the SoundSCAPE music festival in Cortona, Italy.
A native of Huntington, WV, Yuri holds the Doctoral of Musical Arts, and the Master of Musical Arts degrees from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University where he studied with organist Ken Cowan.
