US 41/Six Mile Cypress
Intersection Study Underway
| |
|
Have you ever sat at the intersection of US41 & Six Mile Cypress Pkwy. checking your watch and wondering how long it will take to get through the light?
The Answer: depending on your direction and the season, up to 300+ seconds or about 5 minutes!
For travelers who regularly drive through the intersection of US 41 and Six Mile Cypress Parkway where the Parkway becomes Gladiolus Drive, an ongoing study by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) may be a welcomed development. The legend below is a rendering from the FDOT Project site.
| | | |
|About the Project
According to the FDOT website, The US 41 (SR 45) at Six Mile Cypress Project Development & Environment (PD&E) Study is being conducted to address future traffic demand, enhance safety, and improve the roadway’s design to accommodate all users, including bicyclists and pedestrians. The study is located in unincorporated Lee County, Florida.
| | | | |
Currently the intersection is experiencing congestion resulting in long queues. It serves major retailers, Walmart, Home Depot and Lowes and is located close to the entrance of Lakes Park, a major local attraction. The project is being considered to alleviate traffic congestion and improve intersection safety. According to FDOT records, between July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2024 crash data at the intersection resulted in:
548 Total Crashes
56.2% of Crashes were Front to Rear
2 Fatal Crashes
4 Pedestrian & Bicycle Fatalities

A PD&E Study is a formal process used to develop and evaluate potential alternatives that meet project needs while minimizing impacts on the social, natural, cultural, and
physical environments. It requires the combined efforts of professional engineers, planners, and scientists to develop the best
solution for transportation needs.
Public involvement is a critical component of the PD&E process, ensuring that community input shapes the outcomes and priorities of the project. Please consider attending the in-person or online meetings to share your thoughts regarding design alternatives.
