Today your SWTA Bargaining Team met with the SBUSD bargaining team (Melissa Griffith, Tom Bevilacqua, Estela Corrales, Rigo Lara, and Jon Pearl).
Because of your organizing, we were able to secure two key victories in our successor agreement bargaining: Article 10 (Safety) and Article 19 (Impact Teachers).
- We will now be able to grieve contract violations related to violations of safety protocols in Article 10.6.1 and 10.6.2. This will enable members to hold District administrators accountable for ensuring our classrooms and campuses are safe and secure!
- Impact teachers daily rate is now tied to our salary schedule. Every time we get an ongoing salary increase, impact teachers will too! In addition, impact teachers will no longer make a lower hourly rate than substitutes which will help us recruit and retain impact teachers!
We also reached a tentative agreement on the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Regarding The Virtual Academy for the 2022-2023 School Year and Evaluation for the 2022-2023 school year.
The Tentative Agreements will be emailed as soon as we have signed copies.
Our initial proposals for Article 7 (Health and Welfare Benefits), Article 11 (Class Size), Article 18 (Wages), Article 23 (Preschool) and Article 24 (Special Education), as well as our counter on Article 21 (Specialists), are pending upon clarification of the state budget.
We’ve been saying that our ability to negotiate a better deal and have power at the table depends on YOUR actions. The agreements we reached today demonstrate the power you generated! We know a fair settlement on salary, benefits, and student supports will require even more solidarity. Stay tuned for ways to support your bargaining team!
Future Bargaining Days: July 18th , Aug. 29th , Aug. 31, and September 7th.
Brenda Robles (Bargaining Chair), Alvaro Alvarez, Lorena Garcia, Norma Sahagun, Melissa Romo and Helen Farias (CTA Executive Director).
