Special Edition on Traffic
Lyons Road Community Meeting
Traffic! Traffic! Traffic!
We cannot continue to grow as a community if we cannot control our infrastructure. An important part of a community’s infrastructure is its roadways. The efficiency of roads facilitates the free flow of commerce, increasing business and connecting communities.

As the commissioner of one of the county's fastest-growing areas, as well as your mayor, it is incumbent upon me to ensure that our roads are safe, efficient and free of congestion.

For this reason, I convened our second community workshop on traffic. I am committed to having a follow-up meeting to review the projects discussed at this second traffic workshop.

Lyons Road Update
  • MJC Land Development Project Manager Tom Castano, the general contractor for Lyons Road, was present during the event and stated that all lanes between St. Mary’s Church to Clint Moore Road would be opened for traffic this week (and they are) and that the intersection of Atlantic Ave. and Lyons Road will be completed by July 2024.

  • Traffic signal timing and phasing at Mizner Country Club and Lyons Road – this was discussed and resolved on Friday, Jan. 26, 2024. The county will install the additional signal head for the flashing yellow arrow.

  • The Coalition of Boynton West Residential Association First Vice President, Barbara Roth, noted concerns on Boynton Beach Blvd., Lyons Road, and Acme Dairy due to the additional density that will be creating an increased amount of traffic due to the congregate living facility and essential housing that has been approved for the area.

  • The West Boca Community Council President, Sheri Scarborough, requested the installation of rumble strips along Lyons Road at the Escondido and Timbers communities.

  • Flavor Pict Road, State Road 7 to Lyons Road Update: The project was on hold until testing was completed on the bridge. The county received positive test results and sent them to the engineer of record, who accepted them this week. The contractor was able to do a little paving last week but still has about three weeks’ worth of work left. We should be substantially complete by March 2024.

  • A phone call was made to Kite Realty President and Chief Operating Officer Thomas McGowan and Senior Vice President of Development Mark Jenkins regarding installing the traffic signal at the Delray Marketplace and Lyons Road. Kite Realty has submitted the plans to the county. They are presently under review. All parties understand the urgency of the issue.

  • Persons who provided their emails will receive traffic reports directly from the Palm Beach County Engineering and Public Works Department.
