Compatriots and Friends

Once again Linda and I hope each of you, and your families are safe and healthy.  Our local businesses are opening slowly and we pray that the virus does not impact us anymore than it already has.  I don’t know about you but I could really use a haircut!

Our May chapter Zoom meeting was well attended; we had about 25 compatriots join us.  We had excellent informal dialogue about a number of topics including our public safety award presentations.   Several members dialed in whom live out of state. On June 9 th  California State Society President, our own Compatriot Don Littlefield and Sacramento Chapter Past President Russ Kaiser will present awards to three officers from the West Sacramento Police Department, at their workplace in West Sacramento.  On the same date California Society Vice President North, our own Compatriot Craig Anderson and Sacramento Chapter Vice President Michael Hull, will present awards to a Woodland Police Officer at his place of employment, and a Yolo County Sheriff’s Deputy at his station house.  These presentations and the process was coordinated with the respective agencies in order to fulfill our commitment to honor our local law enforcement officers and to do so in a safe manner consistent with Covid19 concerns.

As you know, a group of our past presidents has been meeting via the Zoom process to plan for our future leadership needs for the chapter.  These meetings were productive and I am happy to report that Compatriot David Cofer has agreed to serve as a Chapter Registrar for the remainder of this term and the year 2021.  Additionally, Compatriot George Taylor has agreed to serve as our Chaplain and Compatriot Ernie Garcia has volunteered to serve as our medals and awards chairman.  Our thanks to all of these members for volunteering and helping to make our chapter the best it can be.

Please consider joining us for our June Chapter meeting, we look forward to seeing and talking with each of you.  Zoom is easy, please give it a try and I’ll see you at the meeting!

Our Chapter Registrar, Scott Brooks, has had to step down because of increased demands on his time due to his career which has been impacted by the COVID 19 virus pandemic, and the demands of raising a young family. He has done an outstanding job with the registrar's position by implementing a team approach to address applicant research issues. Scott will remain active in assisting David Cofer in his new role as Chapter Registrar.
The Sacramento Chapter is pleased to welcome David Cofer as our new Registrar. David was unanimously elected to this position during our last chapter meeting, Compatriot Cofer's application to join the Sons of the American Revolution was approved on March 24, 2017. Since then, he has had 18 supplemental applications approved. For the past year or two, David along with Mike Smith, have assisted our registrar Scott Brooks in assisting SAR applicants with their applications. We are looking forward to working with David.
The Sacramento Chapter is pleased to welcome, Compatriot George Taylor as our new Chaplain.

George John Taylor was born in Staten Island, New York, and spent his childhood in West Covina, California.  He graduated from California State College Stanislaus with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology, and later from California State University Sacramento with a Master of Science Degree in School Psychology.  He was a School Psychologist in Elk Grove for 20 years. His wife Ann is Past Regent of the Sierra Amador Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. They have 2 children (Amanda and Zachary) and 3 grandchildren (Ethan, Ava, and Mia). They are currently retired and spend their time between the family cabin in Pioneer, CA and Lodi,CA.
            .
George’s application to join the Sons of the American Revolution was approved on November 2, 2009.  His patriot ancestor, Zaccheus Macy performed Patriotic Service by lending money to the Colonies, and by holding Civil Office during the Revolutionary War.  He also cared for families in need due to their men being away at the war.
The Sacramento Chapter is pleased to welcome Compatriot Ernie Garcia as our new Medals and Awards Chairman. Ernie was chairman of our succesful Public Service Recognition Program for many years as well as being an active member of our Color Guard and School Guard Programs. We look forward to working with Ernie's in this important chapter role.

Ernie’s application to join the Sons of the American Revolution was approved on September 7, 2005. Ernie is a seventh generation Californian, with his Spanish ancestors being part of the first Spanish land expedition to California in 1769, and who were with the first discoverers of San Francisco Bay on October 31, 1769.

Ernie retired from the US Army as Chief Warrant Officer.  Throughout his Army career Ernie was a counterintelligence officer, and served throughout the United States, Europe, Southeast Asia, Far East, Central and South America.  Ernie is also retired from Federal civilian service.

L ast year, we created a Sacramento Chapter Challenge as a fund raiser to help defray the expenses of hosting the state meeting. Since this meeting has been cancelled, these coins  are available for the donation amounts listed below, plus shipping. If interested contact Don Littlefield or Craig Anderson:

1 Coin - $20; 3 Coins - $52.50; 5 Coins - $75.00; 10 Coins - $125.00; 15 Coins - $150.00; 25 Coins $200.00

Side 1:  Outer ring identifies the National Society Sons of the American Revolution. The inner ring identifies the California Society founded July 4, 1876, the 100 th  anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and the SAR Minuteman, accompanied by 13 stars representing the original 13 colonies, (7 on the left and 6 on the right).

Side 2:   The predominant graphic feature is the dome of the State Capitol, symbolizing Sacramento County as the seat of the state government. The Capitol dome is superimposed upon a parchment scroll which signifies the early historical background of this community for which John Sutter received a Mexican land grant from Governor Alvarado at Monterey in 1841.

Two of the most important historical events in the county's history are denoted by the Pony Express rider on the right and the gold miner on the left. The Pony Express rider symbolizes the fact that Sacramento was the western terminus of the Pony Express. The gold miner signifies the discovery of gold which touched off one of the greatest mass migrations in the nation's history. The date of February, 18, 1850, written on the lower edge of the scroll is the date Sacramento County and the other original counties were created by an act of the state legislature.

The inner ring shows 31stars symbolizing California as the 31st state admitted to the Union. Outer ring shows the Sacramento Chapter SAR received its Charter on October 30, 1922.
