April 2025

Greetings Compatriots and Friends,

Moving into March, we continue to stride through the 250 year anniversary of the path of freedom. We are lining up resolutions from local governments and groups to recognize the 250 year anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord on April 19th. The iconic and triumphant moment of the ‘Shot heard around the world.’ I encourage you to take this year under special attention to not only personally honor, but to meaningfully educate the next generations within your family, circles of friends, and community around you.

I am looking to get members to help with these important ceremonies and take the lead in coordinating the events, please reach out and let me know if you can and are willing to help.

I look forward to seeing all of you at the meeting as we plan for the business and success of the chapter.

In patriotism and fellowship,

Guest Speaker

Jay Dickey

Jay Dickey is a member of the CASSAR Gold Country chapter, and is also a member of the Nevada and Utah SAR state societies. Jay is an author and lecturer on a wide range of subjects related to early American history, including the Revolutionary War era. He is the President of American Heritage Partners, a 501(c)(3) non-profit that hosts educational programs in collaboration with leading American heritage and historical societies, educational institutions, and community groups.  Jay resides in Northern Nevada, and is the Past President of the Nevada Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. He is also a Past Governor of the Nevada Mayflower Society, and currently serves as the Governor of the Northern California Company of the Jamestowne Society.

With regard to his Revolutionary War credentials, Jay is a descendant of 12 SAR patriot ancestors who served in the Continental Army or various state militias.  He is a proud member of the Society of the Cincinnati, where he currently serves as a member of its Library Committee.

Jay's talk commemorates the 250th Anniversary of the Battle of Lexington and Concord.  Jay’s talk is entitled “Paul Revere’s Midnight Ride, and the Shot Heard Round the World.”   On April 19 we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the battle of Lexington & Concord, the battle that started our American Revolution. Jay will cover the key events leading up to Revere’s famous ride, the critical role played by Dr. Joseph Warren (who was later shot and killed at the Battle of Bunker Hill), the flight of Samuel Adams and John Hancock from Boston, and the aftermath of the battle. Today, Revere’s ride has attained mythic status in the history of the Revolution, thanks in part to Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s famous poem published in 1861 entitled “Paul Revere’s Ride.”  What were the real facts? Jay will explore that question and others in his talk

Lone Tree Elementary School Beale AFB

In September 2023, we began raising funds, purchasing and donating books to 5th grade classrooms in the greater Sacramento area. Our goal was to donate 1,776 books to area classrooms by the 250th anniversary of the ratification of the Declaration of Independence on July 4th 2026. 18 months later, we are pleased to announce that we have achieved our initial goal!

On March 6th we delivered the 1,776 book to the Lone Tree Elementary School on Beale AFB near Marysville in conjunction with providing a living history presentation to a school assembly of three 5th grade classrooms.

Letter received on March 17th 2025

Carl,

We deeply appreciate that you honored our school with this visit. I’m sure Melissa shared with you, but I posted out on our school page about your presentation. The children and staff simply loved this presentation. I visited Mrs. Sanocki’s room on Friday and the class was doing a book read of the book your group so graciously donated.

Thank you so much!

SAR members, community members, and businesses who have supported of this program – THANK YOU! Your generosity has made this possible! You all have made it possible for thousands of young students to learn about their heritage, the value of their freedoms, and the meaning of true patriotism. A gift that will last forever.

We will continue to donating books as long as we have funding for this great program. Hopefully we will be able to donate another set of 1,776 books before the 250 anniversary of the ratification on the Declaration of Independence.
