October 2024

 Greetings Compatriots and Friends,

There are many ways to participate and support the Sons of the American Revolution and our Chapters valuable mission. Many of our fellow compatriots’ volunteer time to serve as a program chair, or on a committee, in the color guard representing the Chapter at parades and events and attending meetings.

I don’t want to overlook or minimize the value and importance that everyone of us shares and has in common, paying our annual dues. This financial support is essential to fund and make possible the work the Sacramento Chapter does in our community. If a member is only able or chooses to participate by being a member and paying their dues, that member is supporting and contributing to our mission. Thank you.

Obviously by me President’s Corner, its dues time. You should receive a notice in the mail requesting your dues, and there is an easy online option allowing you to take care of it quickly and save a stamp.

We are planning a wonderful program at our October dinner meeting and will have a couple of teachers to talk about the American Revolution, educating our youth, and the value and impact of our Chapters 1776 Book Project. I hope to see you at the meeting.

Thank you for all that you have done, and all that you will do. Let’s make 2024 & 2025 a great year for the Sacramento Chapter of the SAR lead

in up to our country’s 250th birthday. We can only do this with YOU.

In Fellowship,

Constitution Week

The Gold Trail Chapter DAR's September meeting was a kickoff for Constitution Week. Jim Faulkinbury appeared in uniform to lead the Pledge of Allegiance and Preamble to the Constitution. He then participated in the Ringing of the Bells Ceremony. He also displayed and described the Commander in Chiefs and Commander in Chief's Guard Flags to the attendees.

Congratulations Sacramento Chapter!

The Sacramento Chapter has a long history of educational outreach, dating back over 20 years, in our local schools. Over the past years our “School Guard” members, both SAR and DAR have made historical presentations to up to 1400 students per year on colonial life during the American Revolution. During the 2024 NSSAR Congress in Lancaster, PA, the Sacramento Chapter was the only California Chapter to be awarded the President General’s 2023 Educational Outreach Streamer for its work in this area. This award is given in recognition of the dedication of SAR, DAR members and associates in bringing this experience to our area’s students; thank you, Carl Ahlberg, Larry Brasher, William Reed, Jim Faulkinbury, Kimm Richwine, Helena Hurst, Craig Anderson, Scott Brooks. Special recognition goes to Carl Ahlberg, who coordinated these events and to Jim Faulkinbury who maintained and submitted the correct documentation to qualify the chapter for this award.

You don’t have to be and SAR or DAR member to be a part of this program. If you have an interest in colonial history and the American Revolution; if you have a story, you are willing share with students; and if you can donate 10 to 15 hours of your time per year, please volunteer to be a member of our school guard. We need your help! We have many pieces of colonial attire that we will share with you to save you the expense of building an entire uniform. I guarantee you will have fun, and you will have the satisfaction of knowing that you have played an important role in teaching students about our American Heritage!! An experience they will never get from textbooks.

Contact Carl Ahlberg at icahlberg@sbcglobal.net or Craig Anderson at craigandersonsar@gmail.com

We are pleased to welcome two new members to the Sacramento Chapter. Their applications were approved in August.

2025 Chapter Dues

Compatriots

It’s the time of year that we begin to collect member dues for 2025. You should have received your dues notice; if you haven't contact Jim Faulkinbury.

Life Members: Although you do not owe any SAR dues, please return your dues notice to that we can make sure that your contact information is correct. We value your membership and want to make sure we stay in contact. You may also contact Jim Faulkinbury ( jfaulkin@surewest.net ) or Craig Anderson (craigandersonsar@gmail.com) to pass along any contact changes

Your dues fund many SAR youth programs that educate young people about patriotism and their American Heritage. Your support is critical to continuing these programs:

The Sacramento Chapter members are very active in promoting the “Spirit of 76” in our community. In 2024,

  • We have conducted 8 historical presentations to 5th grade assemblies in 7 schools in colonial attire.

  • We have sponsored 1 teacher from Deterding Elementary to attend graduate teacher workshop on the French and Indian War in Pennsylvania, and we recommended another teacher from the same school who was sponsored by the California Society, SAR. These teachers will be featured at a fall dinner meeting to share their experiences and how this program has affected their teaching.

  •  We have implemented the Sacramento Chapter SAR 1776 Book Challenge for the 2023-2024 school year. In the first year we raised $13297.50 in community donations, and were able to provide 1665 Books to 5thgrade classrooms in the greater Sacramento Area that will potentially impact nearly 10,000 students over the life of the books.

  • We have sponsored 2 high school students to attend Founding Forward’s Spirit of America Youth Leadership Program at Valley Forge, PA. A third student from our area was sponsored by the California Society, SAR

  • We have had 9 High Schools participate in the SAR Outstanding JROTC Cadet Program, 2 Sea Cadet Divisions participate the Outstanding Sea Cadets Program, and 2 Universities participate in the Outstanding ROTC Cadet Program. The winner of our chapter’s JROTC Enhanced Program was a student from Yuba City High School who took 3rd place in the state competition. 2nd place in this program was awarded to a student from Del Campo High School.

Besides your financial support to continue these programs, your volunteer time is critical to make these programs successful. Please consider giving a few hours a year to help with these programs. Please contact any of our chapter officers for more information on how you can help.
