December 2023

November makes me think of Thanksgiving. At our November Chapter dinner, we experienced this Spirit of Thankfulness recognizing and thanking our veterans, a hero, and sharing in fellowship with one another.

Veterans’ recognition began with a video and music compilation of all the military service hymns. As each service branch hymn played, several attendees stood to be recognized for their service in that specific military branch.

Compatriot Larry Niekamp, Veteran’s Recognition Chair introduced and presented a Veterans Bronze medal to Colonel Gene Gabbo. Then, two compatriots were awarded the SAR Military Service Veterans Corps certificates and medals to recognize their service, Ron Proffer in the Air Force and Jon Wroten in the Army.

California SAR Executive Vice President Don Littlefield presented Craig Anderson with a 250 Anniversary Gold Medal, and Carl Ahlberg with a 250 Anniversary Silver Medal. Followed by an update on the recent Board of Managers meeting held at the Queen Mary in Long Beach.

I had the honor to present Compatriot John Mohamed with a Heroism Medal for his actions at work as a park Ranger where he observed a fully engulfed building in flames on Madison Avenue and entered at the risk of his own life to rescue and save a transient inside the building. During the search and rescue, the roof caved in on Ranger Mohamed who sustaining injuries to his throat and lungs from the smoke. John is back at work making our community a safe place for us to enjoy.

In closing, I and the officers and your fellow compatriots of the SAR Sacramento Chapter wish everyone was wonderful and safe Thanksgiving and Holiday Season filled with warmth, family, and love.

I hope to see you at the next meeting.

In fellowship, Jon Wroten

2024 SAR MEMBERSHIP DUES

We are rapidly approaching the end of our 2024 SAR dues collection period; we still have a few members who have not renewed their dues.

As a Sacramento Chapter member, your dues help fund great youth and community programs throughout the year. The Sacramento Chapter was one of a few chapters that won the CASSAR 2022 Outstanding Chapter Award for its outstanding activities; our chapter is noted for being one of the most active chapters in the state. If you have not yet paid your 2024 dues, I urge you to do so as soon as possible and continue supporting our efforts to educate our youth on the values of patriotism and their American Heritage as well as support our veterans and first responders. If you have not received a 2024 dues notice, please contact our Secretary, Jim Faulkinbury immediately at (jfaulkin@surewest.net).

California State Society Bylaws require us to suspend those members who have not paid their dues by December 15th and to drop them from the membership roles on December 31st. We hope to hear from you soon.

“Patriotism - History – Education”

Sacramento Chapter's 1776 Book Challenge is Officially Underway.

The 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence is just around the corner - July 4th, 2026. Our goal is to provide at least 1776 books to classrooms written for 5th grade students that inspire patriotism and a love of our American Heritage. Each teacher will receive a classroom set of books that can be used for years to come.

Teachers participating in the program will make these books available to their students and encourage them to read and report out on what they have read. Where possible, teachers can select the books that they want for their classrooms.

Please Consider Donating

You Make a Difference in our Community

Join the 1776 Book Challenge by donating funds that will enable us to purchase books for this program. For each $10 donated, we will place a book plate with your name or your business name in each book.

Donors may elect to sponsor 1 or more 5th grade classrooms with a donation of $350 each by specifying the teacher's name and school.

These messages are getting more sophisticated and may even include the unauthorized use of the SAR logo and/or a pseudo SAR email address.
