Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at the Old Spaghetti Factory, Sacramento Chapter Executive Vice President Jon Wroten called the Meeting to Order at 6:00 pm.
Chaplain Larry Niekamp gave the Invocation, the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Col. Tom Carpenter USAF (Ret) and the Pledge to the SAR led by Compatriot Chuck Barnett.
Welcome remarks and introductions were given by Executive V.P. Jon Wroten.
There being 14 SAR members in attendance, a quorum being duly established, the following business items were discussed:
California State Executive Vice President Don Littlefield installed Sacramento Executive V.P. Jon Wroten as the new President of the Sacramento Chapter.
Larry Niekamp gave an America 250 Minute presentation about his patriot ancestor and the Battle of Baton Rouge.
Carl Ahlberg provided the members with an update on the 1776 Book Challenge project. He reported that the Chapter has raised nearly $10,000 and book donations to the schools have begun.
V.P. Meetings, Larry Brasher, kicked off the veterans’ recognition program with the playing of a video and the hymns of all the service branches. As each military branch hymn played, all the people in attendance that served in that branch of service were asked to rise and be recognized.
Veterans Recognition Chairman Larry Niekamp presented the Bronze Good Citizenship Medal and Certificate to Col Gene Gabbo USAF (Ret) for his charitable work in the Sacramento community. He presented Certificates of Patriotism to Ron Proffer and Jon Wroten as new members of SARs Veterans Corps.
CASSAR Executive V.P. Don Littlefield presented a SAR America 250 Gold Medal to Craig Anderson and the Silver Medal to Carl Ahlberg for their work on SAR’s America 250 program.
CASSAR Executive V.P. Don Littlefield provided an update of the California Board of Managers
Meeting that was held on the Queen Mary in Long Beach, November 2-5, 2023.
Dinner was served.
Jon Wroten presented Compatriot John Mohamed with the SAR Medal of Heroism
for his lifesaving actions while he was on patrol with the Fulton– El Camino Parks Department Police. CASSAR Executive V.P. Don Littlefield also presented Compatriot Mohamed with a California State Senate resolution recognizing his heroic lifesaving actions.
Don Sparks led the Recessional, followed by Chaplain Larry Niekamp offering the Benediction. Those in attendance sang God Bless America.
President Wroten adjourned the meeting at 8:45pm.
