July 2023

1,095 Days!!! That is the number of days until our country’s 250th birthday.

I’d like to wish all our members, their families and loved ones a Happy 4th of July. This Independence Day weekend is a time for family gatherings, parades, barbeques, celebrations, and fireworks. For most kids, Summer starts when they get out of school, for me and many others, it feels like Summer once we celebrate the 4th of July. With the heat this weekend, it is definitely Summer.

July marks the mid-point of the year. It has been a busy year for the Chapter so far with many accomplishments, and still much work to do. We just had our first Chapter picnic, have co-sponsored a wonderful speaker’s event, completed our classroom program, JROTC and Sea Cadet recognitions, had our poster contest winner win the California award and advance to the national competition, recognized many veterans, and awarded several flag certificates, plus the color guard has participated in several events. I could go on, but as I said, it has been a busy year so far.

My hope is everyone is engaged and finding ways to be involved in Chapter activities that interest you. We continue to need everyone to chip in so we can accomplish the activities and adventures that await us for the second half of the year. There are many, but I would like to highlight the 1776 Book Project. This is an exciting project our Chapter has undertaken to put 1776 books in the hands of 5th graders throughout the Sacramento Region to promote learning and understanding of liberty, independence, and the birth of our nation. I encourage you to join in and support this important project.

Most important right now, on behalf of all our fellow compatriots and Chapter officers, we wish you and your loved ones a fun 4th of July filled with warmth, love and fellowship. Be safe.

Our next Chapter meeting is a business meeting at Cattleman’s on August 19th, I hope to see you there.

Our SAR Mission

“Patriotism - History – Education”

Sacramento Chapter members are working hard, putting together a program that will donate at least 1776 copies of selected history and historical fiction books that are focused on the American Revolution to participating elementary school teachers who teach American History by the 250 anniversary of the ratification of the Declaration of Independence on July 4th 2026.

Our purpose is to support teachers who teach American History, encourage students to read stories about their heritage that will inspire their patriotism, and help students develop an understanding and appreciation of the freedoms they enjoy.

Our goal is to kick off our program at the beginning of the 2023/2024 school year, in September. We need your help. Your support of the SAR 1776 Book Challenge is critical! Our next planning meeting will be a Zoom video conference that will be held on Wednesday, July 5th at 6:30PM. Please join us, and see how you can help make a difference in our community. For your convenience, you may click on the link below to join the meeting.

These messages are getting more sophisticated and may even include the unauthorized use of the SAR logo and/or a pseudo SAR email address.
