Minutes of the May Meeting of the Sacramento Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution
Wednesday May 17, 2023 at the Old Spaghetti Factory, Sacramento, CA
President Adam Morrill Called the Meeting to Order at 7:00pm
The Invocation was given by Chaplain Lawrence Niekamp follow by President Morrill who gave the Pledge of Allegiance and Jon Wroten who gave the Pledge to the SAR.
President Morrill introduced the National and State Officers, and past chapter Presidents and chapter officers present: Jim Faulkinbury – past State President and past Chapter President; Craig Anderson – Chapter VP Programs, Past State President, and past Chapter President; Don Littlefield – Chapter Treasurer, Executive VP & President-Elect CASSAR, and past Chapter President; Scott Brooks Calling Committee Chairman and Guardian of the Flags, and State Historian; Roy Adkins – ROTC/JROTC Program Chairman; Russ Kaiser, State Color Guard Adjutant North and Chapter Color Guard Commander; Carl Alhberg, School Guard Coordinator; Lawrence Niekamp, Chapter Chaplain and Chairman of the Veterans Recognition Committee, and Ford Osborn, past President of the Silicon Valley Chapter. The DAR members present were Ellen Osborn and Karen Faulkinbury.
Special introductions of our guests were made recognizing Brandon Villardi, State Color Guard Commander and State Chairman of the ROTC/JROTC Program & Chairman of Youth Activities, and past President of the Harbor Chapter; Isabelle Brooks, VP of the Capitol Society C.A.R.; Emily Boling, State DAR Organizing Secretary and Sr. President of the Capitol Society C.A.R.; our Outstanding JROTC Contest winner, Krystal Lambert, and our Poster Contest Winner, Grayson Cooper.
For the 250th minute, Scott Brooks, gave a presentation of one of our historic flags, the Sons of Liberty flag. That was followed by Craig Anderson who presented member Carl Ahlberg with the Silver and Bronze 250th Medal, and Jon Wroten with the Bronze 250th Medal for their activities in the 250th Anniversary Program. Following next, Larry Niekamp presented Daniel Johnson with the Certificate of Patriotism and the War Service Medal with the Korea bar for his service in Korea. Brandon Villardi then presented an Outstanding Chapter Award 2022 to past President Russ Kaiser for the chapter’s outstanding participation in SAR programs and activities during his term as President. Another Certificate of Appreciation was presented for the Chapter’s participation in the Wreaths Across America program at the Folsom Veteran’s Hall and the adjoining cemetery.
Before dinner, an announcement was made about the upcoming picnic on June 17th at Howe Park.
Following dinner, Brandon Villardi and Roy Atkins presented the Outstanding JROTC Contest winner, Krystal Lambert of the Casa Robles High School USAF JROTC program with her medal and check. Krystal then read her essay component of the contest entry requirements and then followed with description of her recent additional recipient as one of the High School Junior’s who were selected to attend the Freedom’s Foundation at Valley Forge’s four-day Spirit of America Youth Leadership program at Valley Forge. Our last presentation for the evening was the awarding of our Chapter Poster Contest winner, Grayson Cooper. Not only did he win our chapter contest, but his entry also won the State Poster Contest at the recent Costa Mesa State Meeting. His poster will be entered in the upcoming National contest in Orlando, Florida in July.
President Morrill adjourned the meeting at 8:35pm following his leading of the Recessional, the Benediction by Chaplain Niekamp and the signing of “God Bless America” led by President Morrill.
