May 2026

Compatriots and Friends of the SAR

Thanks to everyone who helped make our April breakfast meeting a success. I was particularly pleased to note that we had 23 SAR members present along with several prospective members who are in various stages of their membership applications. We also had two CAR members join us. I really appreciated everyone’s enthusiasm and contributions to finalizing our 2026 calendar. Click on the button below to see the events we have planned for 2026.

Particularly noteworthy were our committee reports that demonstrated the great work our chairmen are doing in our community. Those reporting were Jon Wroten and Jim McGraw of the ROTC/ JROTC program; Russ Kaiser of the Color Guard; Carl Ahlberg of the School Guard; Patrick Harback of the Veterans Recognition Program; and James Parsegian of the Eagle Scout Program. Don Littlefield of the Americanism Poster Contest and Del Hanson of the Community Recognition Program were unable to attend the meeting, and I made reports on their behalf.

On April 24th and 25th, I had the pleasure of representing you at the California SAR annual meeting in Visalia, CA. I enjoyed the opportunity to connect with old friends and meet many new ones. Some of the highlights of this event was the recognition of member contributions to the SAR and their communities, the recognition of exceptional public service by our first responders, the presentation of California SAR youth awards, and the installation of new California SAR officers for 2026-2027. Of particular note for the Sacramento Chapter, Compatriot Jim Faulkinbury was awarded Oak Leaf Clusters to his Lafayette Volunteer Service Award and the SAR Liberty Medal.

Plan on joining us at our May 20th Dinner Meeting; we will be presenting youth awards to our Enhanced JROTC winner from Casa Robles High School and our Americanism Poster Contest Winner from Sandra J. Gallardo Elementary in Folsom. This will be a great opportunity for you to meet our newly installed California SAR President, Randy Dhindsa and California SAR VP North, Danny Shurtz who will be joining us.

Mark your calendars for June 13th; we will be partnering with the General John A. Sutter DAR and others for a family Flag Day picnic at Rusch Park, in Citrus Heights. More details will be following soon.

THE NATIONAL SOCIETY SONS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION’S

YOUTH PROTECTION POLICY

“The SAR strives to create and maintain a safe environment for all youth who participate in SAR sponsored activities. To the best of their ability, Compatriots and staff, their spouses and partners, and other event volunteers must safeguard the children and young people with whom they come into contact and protect them from physical, sexual, and psychological abuse.”

Youth Protection Awareness and Youth Protection Training

All Compatriots should be aware of the need for Youth Protection Programs and the NSSAR’s YP Policies. Youth Protection Training (YPT) is a critical component of the best practices for organizations who work with young people and for the SAR it is mandatory for all Compatriots in Leadership Positions, Color Guard Members, School Guard Members, and Professional Staff and any Compatriots who work with young people through our Education Outreach Programs, Youth Contests, or with the Children of the American Revolution. This would include but is not limited to Compatriots on the following committees: Americanism, American History Teacher Award, Eagle Scout, Knight Essay, ROTC/JROTC, Rumbaugh and Engagements, Education, CAR Liaison and the Council of State Presidents.

On successful completion of the SAR YPT, you will receive an electronic diploma in PDF format. Forward a copy to: craigandersonsar@gmail.com

Cyber Scams

If you receive an email from a purported Compatriot in need of help that is unsigned, with no personal contact information seeking contributions to any type of fundraising site; or an email addressing you by name from another member of your Chapter requesting the expenditure of funds or the purchase of gift cards, consider it a hoax. These messages are getting more sophisticated and may even include the unauthorized use of the SAR logo and/or a pseudo SAR email address.
