Dr. Engelke was an outstanding optometrist, leader, mentor, and friend to so many within our AFOS community.
Dr. Engelke’s career was distinguished not only by clinical excellence, but by visionary leadership and unwavering dedication to federal service optometry. As Past President of AFOS, she played a pivotal role in strengthening and advancing the organization and the profession. In 2019, she was honored as the AFOS VA Optometrist of the Year.
Those who had the privilege of working alongside Dr. Engelke experienced firsthand her compassion, integrity, and steadfast commitment to mentorship. She led with grace, purpose, and generosity of spirit. Her influence extends far beyond her titles and accolades and will forever live on in the residents she trained, the students she inspired, the colleagues she encouraged, and the countless patients whose lives she touched.
