Transitioning into the next phase...
Greetings employers,

We hope this message find you well and continuing to stay resilient and safe as we head into the summer months.

As we head into the next phases of the pandemic crisis, we know more than we did in March about what it takes to slow the spread of COVID-19. With restrictions easing, we are transitioning into a new period of gradually increasing movement across our region - with a mix of those physically at work with modifications and those continuing to work from home.

We held two Virtual Employer Roundtables last week, the first on May 18 with a Peninsula concentration of attendees, and a second roundtable in partnership with Spare the Air with attendees from across the Bay Area. Many are making modifications to their worksites and procedures, some are adapting commute programs, while a sizeable percentage simply don't know yet. Combined, both groups represented 86 employers, and you can read a recap of the topics, polls, and discussion points here that centered around telework, transportation, and re-open plans here .

A rough estimate indicates that just under half of the workers represented by employers who registered for the roundtables intend to continue teleworking .

However, we feel the data we collected only represents what it represents, and is not a reflective set of the region. That being said, compared to the pre-COVID 6 to 8-percent telework average, the 40-percent estimate is still significant, and we will be keeping a close eye on how the rest end up deciding to get to work in the coming June weeks.

Lastly, this is your last chance to nominate a San Mateo County-based essential business to receive a Safe Commute Care Package by this Friday. Details below. We look forward to hearing from you!

Stay safe and strong,
Virada & Rebecca
Thanking Essential Workers
In partnership with The San Mateo County Spare The Air Resource Team, Commute.org was able to provide lunches for 40 front-line workers at San Mateo Medical Center, nearly 50 Commute.org shuttle drivers and 250 SamTrans transit workers.

These teams of essential workers are the backbone of our ecosystem and face uncertainty and risk to themselves and their families. We find it important to thank our essential community partners and support small local restaurants in the County and hope to continue this valuable outreach. Special thanks to the San Mateo County restaurants we ordered through to deliver excellent service: Sajj Mediterranean, Focaccia Cafe and Le Croissant Cafe.

What's been your personal telework experience?
We are partnering with the Center for Advanced Hindsight at Duke University to learn more about how peoples' experiences with teleworking have changed in response to Shelter at Home orders, and how teleworking is affecting life and work.

The survey will inform future remote working policies to potentially provide traffic relief for cities, improve quality of life for workers, improve productivity and reduce costs for employers. The more answers we receive, the better we can understand how unprecedented levels of remote work is changing work and commute habits, so please take the survey and share it with others.

We appreciate you forwarding this survey to your employees. Respondents will be entered into a drawing for one of three $100 VISA gift cards.
