ISSUE: July 12, 2022
Dear Members,

I had an incredible childhood growing up in Southern Utah. I always felt safe riding my bike to school, making the trek to buy penny candies, and camping in the bike trails. During that same time, a friend's mother was working to get a gang task force together. As a child, I couldn't understand the need. It's true, back then we didn't have many gangs in Southern Utah. However, setting the groundwork for future safety was a great decision. That forward thinking helped stem crime that could have come into our community. Due to our city and county first responders, our cities continue to have low crime rates. We continue to be a welcoming community.

Safe St. George is an initiative by the City of St. George to educate on the good our first responders do for our community. The proactive work of our police and fire department ensures that our homes and businesses are safe. We have a rapidly growing community, and we need to continue to have that safety as a top priority. With that growth comes further needs; we need to ensure we have enough police and fire department assistance to handle the ever increasing demands of a diverse growing area. They need resources to ensure our citizens are safe and protected. Please see the below graphics that outline the urgency for a small property tax increase in 2022 that will fund this greatly needed resource. During the month of July, we continue to show our patriotism and our support for those that protect our safety and freedoms.

Sincerely,

Brad Buhanan
Chief Operating Officer & Acting President and CEO

Utah businesses, once resistant, finally shift to remote and hybrid work

2KUTV News
Ryan & Chris Jones

Utah business professionals are pushing to work from home and hybrid work schedules. Companies have long been reticent to accommodate those requests.

A Utah's Growing Pains investigation found that to stay competitive during an increasingly tight labor shortage, companies are shifting to remote work, opening themselves up to a national pool of job applications, and downsizing their corporate offices. Co-working spaces are also sprouting up throughout the Intermountain West, providing flexible work spaces for freelancers, startups, and companies who want a smaller workspace.

Millions of Americans Regret the Great Resignation

Bloomberg
Alexandre Tanzi

About 20 million Americans quit their jobs in the first five months of this year, in what’s come to be known as the Great Resignation. Many now regret the decision, according to a new survey.
More than one-quarter of those who left work are reconsidering whether they made the right move, according to a study of more than 15,000 job seekers conducted over the past three months by Joblist, an artificial intelligence job-search platform.

The surge in resignations has been linked to Covid risks in the workplace, new opportunities created by work-from-home, and a general sense that Americans have been rethinking their professional lives amid the turmoil of a pandemic. The level of job quits this year is roughly double what it was a decade ago.
