Safe and Sound is the SPFGA's safety and system messaging broadcast.
Housekeeping note:
Some email software, Gmail most commonly, only displays the first portion of longer email messages. If you scroll to the bottom of this message and do not see an Acknowledgement button, then your email software has done this.

Your software will have inserted a link or button at the end of what you see with text to the effect of "See remainder of message" or something similar. Click that link to have your software download the entire message, including the Acknowledgement button.
Member portal updated with clearer visual cues
Based on member feedback, we've made a number of changes to the member portal so it's clearer that you need to complete the orientation.

From the member portal opening screen, there is now a pulsing red banner if you have not completed the orientation. The 'Orientation Exam' link in the side menu is also red, telling you where you need to go to do this.
Once in the 'Orientation Exam' page, there are additional visual cues.
And, if you're also trying to renew, these cues continue on the 'Renew Membership' page: in addition to the pulsing banner and red 'Orientation Exam' link, the Renew button is greyed out and is non-functional.
When you have completed the orientation, the visual cues on the Orientation page change to indicate your success.
Similar visual cue changes happen on the 'Renew Membership' page: the pulsing banner has gone away, the 'Orientation Exam' link in the side menu is no longer red, and the Renew button is no longer greyed out & is now functional. If you still need to renew for 2023, you can now do so at this time.
Ensure you've completed the orientation before Mar 1
As a friendly reminder, you'll need to complete the newly-developed facility and safety orientation before March 1, 2023.

If you renewed for 2023 without having to complete the orientation (common for members who renewed prior to the end of December 2022), you'll need to do this as the gate access cards of any 2023 member who has not completed the orientation by March 1, 2023 will be made inactive on that date.

All new members who have joined since January 1 will have already completed the orientation in order to receive their gate access card. (Completing an orientation has been a requirement of new members for years.)

Going forward, we will continue to update the content of the orientation with club, facility, and rule changes as they occur. All members must then repeat the orientation every three years to ensure their knowledge is current. The membership system will track this and let you know when you need to complete it again.
How do I get to the orientation to see if I still need to complete it?
To see whether you still need to complete orientation, sign into your member portal on the website.

If there is a pulsing red banner, click the red 'Orientation Exam' link in the side menu, to go to the orientation page. Click the red pulsing button that reads "Click here to take the Orientation Exam".
If there is no pulsing red banner on your member portal and if when going into 'Orientation Exam' you see something like the following, you have already completed the orientation.
Who else can take the orientation?
The primary member in each membership must complete the updated orientation in 2023 and then every three years after that.

Spouses and dependents on a Family membership can take the orientation too (we encourage it in fact - a high knowledge bar across the board is good for everyone!). Doing so just isn't a requirement for them.

Any member is free to repeat the orientation whenever they like as often as they wish in order to review.
In-person orientation sessions
In order for the thousands of members who will need to complete the orientation to have done so, for reasons of feasibility the majority of members will need to do this online. For members who truly cannot complete the orientation online however, the next in-person orientation sessions will be held on the following dates:
  • Feb 5 (Sun)
  • Feb 11 & 12 (Sat/Sun)

All sessions will begin at 9:30 a.m., please bring a pen or pencil to use when completing the exam. Pre-registration by contacting the office at 780-467-0085 is required. Walk-ins will not be accepted.

Please note that not being able to secure a spot at an in-person session does not remove the responsibility to have completed the orientation prior to the March 1, 2023 deadline.
Remember to set up the other members of your family
If you have purchased a Family or Family with Range Privileges membership, please ensure you have added your spouse and/or children under the age of 18 to your membership. To do this, use the Add Family Members link on the side menu of your member portal.

(Note: If you purchased a Regular, Regular with Range Privileges, or Youth membership, this step is of course not applicable.)
Trying to change your membership class?
If you're trying to renew but want to change your membership class - move from a Regular to a Family membership, say, or add Range privileges if you did not have them already - we'll need to help you with this.

Just contact us at the office at memberservices@spfga.ca and we'll get you on your way.
2023 Annual General Meeting
Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held remotely on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 7:30 p.m.

Presentation of the audited 2022 financial statements, the appointment of the auditor for the 2023 financial statements, and Board elections will occur at this meeting.
Safe and Sound emails are compulsory
Computer Menu
As discussed in the orientation, reading and understanding the information in issues of Safe and Sound is required to maintaining an active gate access card.

Members not regularly opening, reading, and acknowledging issues within two weeks of them going out will start receiving reminders.

Repeat reminders will lead to gate access card deactivation.
