Brandeis Kindness Days

Two hands form a heart

World Kindness Day is observed internationally on November 13. The Brandeis Kindness Day initiative was started by a faculty member with a vision to further connect Brandeis by promoting morale, building community, and encouraging more small acts of thanks and kindness on campus.

This year, Brandeis is offering a virtual kindness card, so that all students, faculty, staff, alumni, family and friends can participate! Follow Brandeis Kindness Day on Facebook and Instagram to learn more about available activities.

Skip the Small Talk: Speed friending

Spread kindness, build connections, and make new friends on campus in a low-key, low-pressure environment.

You will be paired up and given some psychology-backed question prompts (but you’ll always have the option to choose a prompt or make up your own), and then you will switch partners so you’ll get to talk to a bunch of people throughout the event.

Graduate and undergraduate students welcome!

Dealing with Holiday Stress

The holidays can be a time to reconnect with family and friends and engage in special traditions, but for many, holidays can also be a time of stress. Dealing with disagreements, unsolicited advice, and scrutiny during the holidays can be challenging. Some may experience pressure to spend money, difficult political conversations, or competing demands on your time. With some planning and support, you can prioritize your well-being.

Preventing burnout with Headspace

Graduate school is full of deadlines. The pressure to meet deadlines, show progress in your research work, and desire to create the best possible outcome builds up stress.

Constant stress leads to fatigue and burn out, when you lose motivation or begin to feel cynical or resentful. It becomes tough, almost impossible, to maintain your high achievement standards when feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, or emotionally drained. Breaks that involve in-person communication, hobbies, physical activity, or meditation can replenish your energy level and improve productivity.

Headspace has short (3-10 minutes) meditations especially for students in the section “Student Essentials.” Focus and relaxation music recommended for studying is also available. This quick 3-minute meditation helps to alleviate stress when feeling exhausted or burned out. Please note that you’ll only be able to access this meditation after signing up for Headspace.
