Safety Conference Opening Session Speaker Announced

JARI and members of the JARI Safety Industry Partnership are pleased to announce that the opening presentation for the 16th Annual Alleghenies Regional Safety Conference will be on Managing Workplace Bullying to Create A Safe Work Environment .

Leah Hollis, a professor at Morgan State University and an international scholar on workplace bullying and diversity, will present the opening session for the conference. Hollis is a Johnstown native and has presented her research at Oxford University, the University of Milan and the American Council on Education.
The conference will be held on Tuesday, October 2 from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm at the Frank J. Pasquerilla Conference Center located in downtown Johnstown. There are still vendor and sponsorship spots available. The Early Bird rate deadline for vendor registration is this Friday, September 7th.

PTAC Announces HUBZone Webinar

The JARI Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) along with the SAP&DC, SEDA-COG, and IUP PTACs are presenting an informational webinar on Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone) Certification on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at 9:00 AM.

The two hour webinar will cover the following:
  • What is a HUBZone
  • What does it mean for businesses
  • HUBZones in central PA
  • Review of application process

An additional hour will be included for any questions attendees may have.

On Thursday September 6, 2018, six local entrepreneurs will compete for a cash prize of up to $10,000 which will be awarded at the graduation “pitch” event. A team of judges from the community will make the decision on the winning presentation.

  • Vinzeal Wolf’s company, ETAL Transfer Authority, has developed an affordable transportation solution that will run a commuter shuttle from Johnstown to Pittsburgh.
  • Travis Lodolinski’s company, Agently, provides automated tools to online businesses that will help them reach and engage with their prospects as well as follow-up after a sale.
  • Ryan Kieta’s company, Real Design, is developing a proprietary line of street furniture, PopBench, for use in outdoor venues and “pop-up” locations.
  • Matthew Leverknight’s company, Free Feet Shoes, will be producing a line of specialty footwear designed for those who have special needs that require the use of ankle-foot orthotics.
  • Tom McConnell’s company, Eternal Remembrance LLC, delivers an easy-to-use, mobile memorial application that provides an innovative way to connect, celebrate and honor your loved ones’ legacy.
  • Joshua Barbin’s company, Zion Preparatory Schoolhouse, is creating a talent pipeline in Johnstown that will begin to turn around “brain drain” by helping students develop talent relevant to the local marketplace.
