While the future merged standard for global machine safety still remains unclear, expect changes to ISO 13849 and IEC 62061.

The movement toward a single global machine-safety standard has been a long time coming, and now it's going to be a little longer.

The merger of safety standards ISO 13849 and IEC 62061 into one standard, IEC/ISO 17305, was scheduled to take effect this year. However, the project was cancelled, at least for now, based on decisions made at the October 2015 plenary meeting of ISO technical committee ISO/TC199.
