Safety Improvement Project on Cambridge St

Project Update: Oak St to Prospect St

Thanks for your continued interest in the Safety Improvement Project on Cambridge Street! See below for a key project update.

Updated Plans for Part of Section A (Oak St to Prospect St)

We have posted the final plans for a small section of Cambridge St, between Oak St and Prospect St. Click here to view the final plans.

The plans for Oak St to Prospect St include:

  • Installing a separated bike lane on the north side of the street, heading west towards Inman Square (the eastbound separated bike lane on this section is already installed).
  • The total number of parking spaces, including dining spaces, on this section is being reduced by 1, from 9 spaces to 8 spaces.
  • Accommodations for seasonal in-street dining, with more flexible uses.
  • This is a quick-build plan, including pavement markings and flex-posts. No roadway reconstruction, such as paving or curb work, will occur.

Installation Timeline - Oak St to Prospect St

We expect to install this section in Early Spring 2025 to allow for the deployment of outdoor dining on a timely schedule. We are working with nearby businesses to determine an acceptable installation timeline. The installation date is weather dependent. We will share an additional email when the work is scheduled.

Work will include:

  • Approximately 1 night of pavement markings, occurring during the overnight hours
  • 1 day of flex-post installation
  • Temporary parking restrictions. No parking will be allowed overnight beginning at 8 p.m. Please obey all posted signs.
