Updates and Information for September 30, 2024

WATER

  • Buncombe County water distribution began at 2pm today at North Windy Ridge Intermediate School.
  • Some Town water service will be restored this week.
  • The Town's emergency contingency plan has been set in action. We've received generators for the water treatment plant, and we are working to receive emergency water from Mars Hill. If/when water returns, conservation of water and water boiling will be critically important.
  • Lakes, rivers, and creeks should be considered contaminated. We discourage any consumption of those water sources.

TRAVEL

  • If possible, self-evacuation is encouraged.
  • I-26 East and West are open.
  • I-40 in both directions is still closed.

INFORMATION AND RESOURCES

  • Phone vendors have turned on "disaster roaming", this means that any phone can connect to any cell tower, making reception easier. Be sure to turn on "data roaming" in your device, and it will improve signal.
  • The B.E.A.R. Closet at Methodist Fellowship Hall on Main Street is open and has baby supplies. Hours will be posted on their door.
  • If you’re looking for family members, Buncombe County Register of Deeds has developed a web-based form to assist people in finding and connecting with residents of Buncombe County. Form is here. You can also call (828) 820-2761. Please leave a voicemail and someone with Register of Deeds will contact you as soon as they can.
  • For updates from Buncombe County, tune in to AM 570 and FM 88.1 for updates at 10am and 4pm.
  • The drive-thru at the Prescription Pad is open 9am - 5pm.
  • Buncombe County Curfew in effect: 7:30pm – 7:30am. Please don't drive after dark.

If you need Weaverville Police Department for a non-emergent situation, please come to the office. If you have an urgent need, call 911.

All Town person-power efforts are being put towards life saving measures. Trash and brush pickup will resume after these more pressing needs are addressed.

Public Works has worked to ensure that every road in Town can be traveled by car, and is now working to widen the paths in order to ensure emergency vehicles can also travel the roads.

Information will be posted to Town buildings every day around 4pm as we learn more.

Please be kind to each other, share information and resources if you're able, and check on your neighbors.
