May 12, 2020

Dear Kappa Sig Parents, Active Members, and Alums,

Now that UT’s regular classes have ended and final exams are soon to conclude, we are writing to follow up on our March 19 email, where we outlined our plans for navigating through the COVID-19 pandemic crisis as safely as possible.

Tau Chapter and the Texas Kappa Sigma Educational Foundation (House Corporation) worked together to complete each task and implement each new policy as planned. These items included: thoroughly cleaning the Residence Hall; closing common areas (including the Lodge) to discourage group gatherings; switching from seated group meals to serving boxed to-go meals for both lunch and dinner to about 50 active members (those who were still living in Austin and in good standing); and, complying with State, County, and City directives.

Spring semester meal service has now concluded, but the summer meal service will begin in June for those who have signed up, with the same protocol for food service to remain in place.

We continue to carefully monitor information from The University, Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and, of course, the CDC. Although several Tau Chapter actives had reason to believe they were possibly exposed to COVID-19 while on spring break, they were all subsequently tested for the virus, and the results were negative. To date, no members living in Austin have tested positive for the virus to the best of our knowledge.

Even with this year’s unprecedented challenges for social activity, the Rush 2020 team is moving forward. Since, for the unforeseeable future, numbers allowed to gather for rush events will be far fewer than in years past, the Chapter is expecting to spend the bulk of its time and resources on smaller gatherings with prospective pledges (while complying with social distancing directives). The Chapter has ramped up its communications via texting and with good results — several soon-to-be-freshmen have already signed bid cards. This year marks the earliest we have ever had pledge commitments for the fall!

Your contributions to Rush 2020 are needed and always appreciated. Click here if you would like to donate online.

We all look forward to “a reasonable return to a new normal” and are especially hopeful that football season comes off without a hitch. Looking ahead to the fall semester, be sure to mark your calendar for Parents/Tau Trustees Weekend on November 13 and 14.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact TKSEF Board Chairman Bill Zwiener . Bill, or another director or officer, will get back to you as quickly as possible.

Sincerely,

Directors and Officers
