While many slip, trip, and fall injuries happen during the winter because of traction conditions, hazards also exist indoors that lead to similar injuries. The first step to preventing injuries from slips, trips, and falls is to do a hazard assessment.
Some indoor trip and slip hazards may be easy to spot, such as:
- Slippery or wet floors, such as melting snow from boots, oil spill, spilled coffee,
- Clutter in workspaces, such as cables that run across the floor, desk drawers left open, or items stacked in high traffic areas,
- Poor lighting or visibility.
For an easy way to identify and control slip, trip, and fall hazards at your workplace use the WSCC’s Hazard Assessment template to help workers and supervisors identify worksite hazards, and choose the right controls for the hazards you find.
