Safety Spotlight: Ergonomics

Ergonomics is a safety issue that affects every worker, no matter what job they do or work setting they are in. Good ergonomic practices make sure jobs and tasks are fit to workers’ needs to avoid injuries. Practicing good ergonomics is just as important for a worker using heavy tools as it is for an office worker that sits for long hours.

In the NWT and Nunavut, the top three industries affected by ergonomic injuries include:

  • Government organizations
  • Retail industry and Personal care workers
  • Construction and trades

To learn more about ergonomic injuries, including identifying hazards, and resources you can use at your workplace, see our latest Safety Spotlight

Emergency Response Plans

Does your workplace have an up-to-date Emergency Response Plan? These site-specific plans are important for the safety of everyone in your workplace in the event of an emergency. Your Emergency Response Plan should be posted somewhere visible, or easily accessible to employees. Review the plan with workers at your next safety talk, and when you’re onboarding new employees.

Have questions about emergency response planning? The WSCC is here to help! Contact the WSCC’s Safety Outreach team for more information: Safety.Outreach@wscc.nt.ca or Safety.Outreach@wscc.nu.ca

WSCC Survey

You may be contacted by Datapath Systems to participate in our User Experience Survey. Your feedback is important to us, and this confidential survey is your chance to tell us how we’re doing and what we can be doing better.

Safety & Health Week: May 6-11, 2024

Safety and Health Week is celebrated annually across North America during the first week of May to highlight the importance of preventing workplace injury and illness.

WSCC is focusing on the importance of good ergonomics this year. We are offering courtesy inspections to employers to help identify ergonomic hazards in their workplace for the month of May. Email safetyspotlight@wscc.nt.ca or safetyspotlight@wscc.nu.ca to book your inspection in support of Safety & Health Week today!

We encourage all employers to find ways to celebrate this week and raise awareness on the importance of workplace safety.
