Shaheen Development Court Street Project
|
|
Shaheen Development is constructing a single occupant medical office building at the site of the former John Moore School at 700 Court St., across from the County Courthouse. Saginaw Future and the City of Saginaw assisted with a Brownfield Plan for the project, including the capture of nearly $1 million in eligible activities, including demolition and asbestos abatement, over the life of the plan. The total investment for the project is $6.5 million and will add 40 jobs in the City of Saginaw.

DHT Group Investing $6.5 Million
|
DHT Group is a Saginaw County trucking company with facilities in Newport, Port Huron, Sault Ste Marie, and Bellefontaine, Ohio. DHT also provides freight brokerage services, 24hr truck and trailer repair service and secure transport. Since 2017 the company has been phasing out older units with new state of the art equipment at a cost of $6.5 million. DHT also invests in continuous training of its employees through an in-house paid training program that educates on compliance, industry standards and technology. Most recently, DHT has earned a training grant for diesel technicians from MiWorks - Going PRO Talent Fund. DHT has partnered with Great Lakes Bay Michigan Works!, Trucking Association Members and Delta College to help launch the new State-of-the-Art Diesel School at Delta College. That initiative was spearheaded by Saginaw Future in partnership with MiWorks and Delta College. The company expects to create 30 jobs this year between Diesel Techs and CDL-A Drivers.

Serenity Springs Assisted Living Center Adding 15 Jobs

|
Serenity Springs Assisted Living Center is a senior housing facility located in the City of Saginaw that offers Independent Retirement Living, Assisted Living, Secured Alzheimer’s/Memory Care, Respite and Home Care. The property is under new management and anticipates an investment of up to $1.2 million in various expenses including, modifying the processes and reorganizing the business. Since the changing of hands, the occupancy has increased from 40 to 70 patients with plenty of room to continue to grow with a total capacity of 105 rooms available. There have been 15 new jobs added to the existing staff of 30 employees. The business has continued to offer high levels of senior care through the pandemic without having a single case of COVID 19 in the facility. Saginaw Future assisted the management team with property information and various business resources throughout the transition.

UMBRA Group Invests $1 Million
|
|
UMBRA Group was awarded more than $64,000 in job training funds and plans to invest $1 million in new grinding and other equipment. The improvements will help increase efficiency and the company will be implementing lean principles, waste reduction and key performance indicators. UMBRA currently has 155 employees and has recently added five new employees in 2021. SFI continues to assist the company, most recently with its Going Pro application and government contract assistance.

Fifth Avenue Limited Partnership is Redeveloping
the Former Case Funeral Home
|
Fifth Avenue Limited Partnership is redeveloping the former Case Funeral Home building located at the corner of Hamilton and Adams St. in Old Town Saginaw. The project is being led by Alex de Parry, President of Ann Arbor builders, who has renovated a number of historic buildings in the City of Saginaw. The project will consist of twelve retail suites and the total investment for the project is $500,000 that will create 25 jobs. Saginaw Future and the City of Saginaw assisted with implementation of a Brownfield Plan for the project.

Old Town Junction Redeveloped!
|
The Old Town Junction is a redevelopment of a long-standing bar and restaurant in Old Town Saginaw. The new ownership renovated the well-known building to preserve the nostalgia, while adding additional features to make it more modern. The outdoor eating area is expansive allowing the business to continue to operate during the COVID-19 restrictions. The new owner is continuing to add outdoor space to increase interest and available seating. The approximately $300,000 investment to date has created 20 new jobs with projections of doubling that number this year as the business continues to expand. SFI has assisted with planning and zoning approvals, multiple grants related to COVID-19, and a Saginaw Downtown Development Authority Facade Grant.

Red Eye Coffee House Relocates
|
The Red Eye Coffee House has been located in Old Town Saginaw for 27 years. The business is relocating down the street from its current location and renovating a new space at 211 N. Hamilton St. In addition to updating the space, the business is expand their menu to market to new people, throughout the county and surrounding area.
The new interior will have an earthier and more updated feel to welcome new clientele while catering to the strong customer base developed over the past years. This project is an investment of $80,000 and will result in the retention of seven jobs and create two.
The project was assisted by a Saginaw Downtown Development Authority Facade Grant.

Saginaw Future Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) assists businesses in identifying and securing government contracts. In the second quarter, the PTAC assisted 15 regional companies that won 36 government contracts valued at more than $25 million.
The federal government is a multi-billion dollar purchaser of goods and services. States and local governments are also major purchasers of products and services. To ensure that Saginaw County businesses have access to these contracts, the Region 5 PTAC was created. The organization is a sub-center of the Northwest Michigan PTAC and services Saginaw, Arenac, Bay, Clare, Isabella, Gladwin, Gratiot and Midland Counties. Housed at Saginaw Future offices, the PTAC can help you understand and take advantage of government contracting opportunities.
